Aye, didn't quite turn out as we expected when we left after WW2. My mate's mam is from there, left when she was a kid, so he's been back and forth there a few times. Usually is refused visa though so either has to cross the border with the Free Burmese Rangers or work in the refugee camps in Thailand. Think this'll be the first time he got in legally.

My girls mum, who's Irish went to Bangladesh with the Peace Core, to help out with the countries known liking for the occasional rain, and met her dad while over there. Got married, lived very well, with maids, groundsmen, freinds of heads of police, polititions etc, till she left him and brought the two daughters back to Ireland. My girly was 4 at the time, her sister 2. Both girls are as Irish as Irish can be. Only their skin colour singles them out.

This photo confuses me. Its a weird old version of the SA80, its not the new A2 as the charging handle is all wrong and its sort of wrong for the original A1 as well. Also its not standard issue UK webbing or helmet, but it is DPM. UK troops serving with the UN wear the standard British Army helmet in UN Blue so something very weird is going on.

No other country uses the SA80 either.

I couldn't tell you where the source is actually.

I just know a handful of Mozambique's soldiers have/had them, Jamaica uses it lightly, and Nepal's ghurkas use it.

Also, the picture does look like the airsoft SA80. It's probably intentionally staged to make some sort of statement.

It looks more like a photoshop when you examine the bulletholes which are nicely blurred compared to the rest of the wall and as Ska said the metal sign which is floating on the wall. The weapon itself and all the gear is also in mint condition, not a single dent, scratch or blemish on it. Not very likely for someone serving, let alone in Africa. The magazine also looks extremely long, like 50% longer than standard issue stuff although that could be the angle.

The light also seems to be slightly off. ther shadow on the boy in the background falls to the lower left side, whereas the highlight on the soldier is on the upper left, not the upper right.

Verdict: Fake.

Yeah, not a wise move. Saying that though, seen a few pictures of British and US special forces in Afghanistan wearing little to no gear, maybe it's a trend :p

My mate ships back out in a bit. Said last time he was there that it was so bloody hot around mid-day that it was tempting to just dump your gear. That and alot of the irrigation ditches they were storming were so narrow that you quit often snagged yourself getting in/out. Might just be a British thing though as the general consensus seems to be that alot of our gear is crap and outdated e.g.

Can you explain what the occlusion one is? I've heard it before and am at the "learning graphics techniques for programming" stage and would be very curios, especially since whenever I look at it it just looks like inaccurate phong shading .
