after reading this, i want myself a glock 21. ANyone here know anything about the glock 21 ? ever shot one ? pros, cons ?
ps.
very very nice collection of firearms you have.
i owned a chinese norningco SKS, folding stock. semi auto, accepted 30 round clips. 7.62x39 i believe it was ?
from what i was told, it was ready to go full auto, all i needed to do was upgrade the trigger system. although its a very low end riffle, i could shoot 6 coke bottles in a row, from a few yards away. i'd shoot em up in the air, and shoot em again while in the air. *not all 6 in the ari* i had to sell my riffle because i needed money to fix my car :( very sad. its ok, because now that i have a good job, im gonna get back on it.

Just got rid of my first ever rifle, a Browning Auto-22:

I've got a Ruger 10/22 but can't find a photo of it, its back home as I'm at Uni so can't take a pic, got a CZ 452 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CZ_452) reserved in a shop for when I'm back at Easter.
Heres my air-rifles for shits and giggles too (top BSA Supersport MkII and a cheapo SMK .22):

the goverment can probably see this...
Considering the people I associate with online, and the types of forums I frequent and things I say.. the gov knowing what guns I have is the least of my worries.
With that said, if it was transfered to you, then they already know what you got... or at least had..
And as far as I'm concerned they can know all they want about the guns I own as it still doesn't change the fact that if they want it, they gotta come and get it.

Very true by the very laws that have passed in the last year, I already am, Any free thinking individual can fit the mold they have build around us, Let them label me, let them label all of us, don't fear it don't cower and bend over for unjust laws, abuses and usurpations, that why they continue to do that which they do best, make us fear them. I refuse to and should that time come i welcome it, I know what I am and those around me do as well, several people I've had close contact with are now setting in cells for nothing more then standing up for there rights, When Fellow Citizens decide to pick up a book and understand that our beloved firearms are not for hunting or sport and are protected to protect us from and overbearing and tyrannical Government, then maybe we can all stand together and say stop.
But I refuse to cower and hide my beliefs and my love of freedom because bad things might happen, Thats not freedom and thats not the country I was raised to believe was just and righteous.

I also have an M1 Garand, an Anshutz (sp?) .117 cal pellet gun, 1960 something Colt detective in .38, and my dad is going to sell me his Glock 23 when I turn 21 so, neat
as for the Glock 21...idk, I've shot about 4 or 5 different Glocks, in fact my dad's 23 was the one I learned how to handle a hand gun...
IMO, there's no difference in models except for handle size, caliber, extractors, and trigger/grip textures...so, you're not going to get a bad pistol, you just have to pick out which one you like best. The 21 fires just about like any .45 I've shot...except glock puts a texture on their grips and really bothers me

I actually have to say, the ingenuity of Californians with regards to their firearms laws is quite amazing. Calguns does, indeed have all the answers you need. And you can bet that whenever it is that I have more money (and God knows when that'll be), I'll be equipping myself suitably.

I don't believe they're transferable, actually. It's okay to have them if you had them before the ban (which was in 2000) you just can't buy/sell them.
I'm not sure of the exact wording, but it's likely that if you put a magazine lock on one it's totally trasferable.
D.O.A
Feb 19th, 2008, 02:00 AM
Preban setups can be bought, however preban recievers that were registered before the ban, can not be transferred/bought, even if you do have a magazine lock. Remember, they were banned by model and features. Even if you have a preban (registered before the ban) which made it on the ban list, and nerfed according to the current ban, you still can not sell it because it is still banned by model.
As a general rule of thumb, even in banned states, Preban and Postban does not really apply (certain situations apply). I bought my first AR almost two years ago. Within the ban, and it has all pre ban features (bayo lug, collapsable stock, A2 hider, and pistol grip). With a locked magazine of course ;).

That's actually a cut-down 1916 SMLE. It came as a package along with the other SMLE (42 Lithgow) and the Mas 36. It was not treated well at all and I've been SLOWLY restoring it. I'm trying to clean the poor thing from all of the rust that was allowed to accumulate on nearly everything. The bore is pristine however. If I leave it out in the sun for five minutes, oil just pours out from the stock.
I can't really compare shooting an M48 or M38 to an SMLE since it's a full length rifle, but the .303 out of an SMLE feels like .223 out of an AR-15.

Sadly not, much as I wish I could. That photo was taken stateside, with the gun inside. The G36 has been removed now and replaced with an airsoft so I can legally own it here in the UK :(
It was a full live-fire weapon, full auto capability, not blank firing. Never got to shoot it - a tragedy.

Get a Ruger 10/22 and I'm sure theres a G36 kit for it somewhere, then put it back in. Live fire (albeit .22RF and semi-auto) again :maxey:

My one and only. I bought it on my 21st birthday. Colt stopped selling to public soon after I think. It's a Colt Combat Commander C.C.O. Not the light weight version. I had my choice, but the light weight felt like a toy it was so light.
I think this Colt model 09850EU might be on the rare side, but I do not really know. I can't find it in the newer price guides. I would like to know the resale value if anyone could help.

Checked Gun Broker. My guess that it would go for at least $800-900, more since you have the original papers and box. How many rounds do you have down the pipe? You seem to certainly have an asset. Are you planning on selling it?

What insane asshole would make a movie prop that could fire LIVE AMMUNITION?
Ask Brandon Lee.
IIRC he was killed by a squib load (bullet didn't have enough oomph to exit the barrel) that was ejected once a blank was fired. However, there WAS a guy killed by a blank-firing gun back in the 80s due to the plastic wadding hitting his temple and sending skull fragments into his brain. Blanks can kill too.

I thank you for looking!
Probably too many. I don't know my guess is about 400 rounds. Love to take to the range, though haven't in about 2 years. I keep it cleaned and oiled. I have thought about selling it but also like having it as a collectible. I'll tell you what peaked my interest. I knew a guy that collected guns. We crossed paths after several year of not seeing one another. He asked me if I still had this gun and if I would sell it. I told him maybe but I really like having it. He must have told his friend about it because a couple of days later the friend was very interested in the gun. He hadn't even seen the gun.

No problem! Still, I wouldn't hesitate to ask around for a second opinion on the value of your piece. One of the Presidential candidates wants to "ban all semi automatic firearms" (i know right?), so the value might go up even more (if in fact he gets elected). It all depends on the language of the Bill itself.

400+\- I bought a couple boxes of ammo of the shelf. Then bought an ammo box of 500 round at a gun show. have about 75 round left. I indeed buy the gun new. I can't find a match yet, now trying GunsAmerica. I thought I read once that they didn't make many with the options of both Combat Commander and Concealed Carry Officer's. I don't know much about it, Just bought it because I liked it.

...that is a pretty big issue that you are going to have to work out between the two of you. A gun in the house is kind of an important thing for a spouse (and mother) to know about. It'd be better to work on whatever issues she has with guns rather than try and go behind her back.

If she is uncomfortable with guns and you are willing to submit one of your likes, that's a big problem. I have yet to see someone have a problem with guns when they become educated about them. My girlfriend of 2.5 years went from being a complete Anti (didn't know diddly-doo about them) to being perfectly fine with them after reading studies and me taking her to the range.
My only problem now is that sometime in the future she wants a S & W Model 29 in .44 Magnum.

Well, that changes circumstances a bit if it was before you were even engaged. But glad to see you're willing to discuss it with her.
To avoid problems in the future (and potential static if/when you want to expand your collection), I'd recommend acclimating her to guns. After a range trip or two she still might hate guns, but she may be more understanding of your hobby.

Tyler, an AK47 is pretty nice, but if you want a cheaper rifle that's a pretty decent shooter, pick up an SKS. Uses the same ammo, and is a real nice workhorse. Of course, if you're planning on dealing with cosmoline, might as well pick up a K98 or Mosin-Nagant too. Really it depends on what exactly you're looking for before you can get any really helpful suggestions.
Of course, if you want to shoot a shit ton, buy a Ruger 10/22 and a drum magazine for it. Then bump fire it.

If your going to go .308, there is no substitute for the M!A, The .308 Saiga, isn't authentic, if thats what your looking for, its not an issue weapon anywhere, High cap 20 round mags are hard to get and the ones that can be had are after market and expensive.
The second rifle, unless your a collector, you'll never need or use any of the accessories, and if you are, they aren't authentic, they are a mix from various places...
Atlantic won't sell sell you a junk gun, But at the same time you can have MUCH better for not much more, thats a WASR, its going to be rough as far as metal work, and unless they had someone refinish them, the paint will also be rough, It has no mag well dimples like a traditional AK, just smooth sides,
Lancaster Arms or Vector Arms are your best options for a Standard AKM Type rifle
The Lancaster has a more authentic butt stock, if thats what your looking for, neither have a scope rail, as AKM's don't come with them, Both companies I believe are building on NDS receivers, They are about as close as you'll get to authentic, Request a NDS receiver,
http://atlanticfirearms.com/programming ... Prodid=462 (http://atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=462)
http://atlanticfirearms.com/programming ... p?Prodid=9 (http://atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=9)
I own 2 Vector Guns, Both are great still function perfect after 3 years of owning them and several thousand rounds through em, But given the options now, considering the Options Lancaster gives you and the warranty the Lancaster is a good buy, I've heard nothing but good about em.
I would also consider the AK-74 based Tantal, http://atlanticfirearms.com/programming ... Prodid=455 (http://atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=455)
5.45x39 ammo is somewhat similar to our 5.56x45 ammo, and its the cheapest ammo to get.

Mainly because theres some ridiculously high percentage of crime commited with imitation firearms. Basically, the Government still thinks banning stuff works. Sure does, just like banning handguns in 1991 made handgun crime stop.

Take it from someone who been in the game a while, Stay away from any of that shit, you get caught with it and you WILL go to jail. The BATFE sends people to jail for shoestrings, they are machine guns, I shit you not. they don't care about your story they don't care that you didn't know, and they just simply don't give a damn about you or anyone else, all they care about is your fuck up, and how long they can put you away for it.
Its not worth it,
Be happy with semi auto, if you can afford the ammo at this point in time to fire a full auto weapon, then you can afford the 10k price tag on a legal full auto AK MINIMUM, extensive Background checks, higher then usual transfer fees, and the one time $200 tax stamp for it.. you will not get one cheaper then that if it is then its not legal.., I don't care what anyone tells you.
Contrary to what the shit heads at the local gun shops tell you, Making an Full auto isn't just matter of swapping a few parts, it isn't legal and its def not safe
You don't need FA parts to make an AK or any Semi auto for that mater go FA, just simple know how in how the gun works... But those FA parts aren't there to make it go FA they are there to make it SAFE in FA, Every part of an FA weapon has its parts made in such a way to delay certain actions within the weapon, if one thing goes out of sync, your face gets blown off and you die. Don't mess with it, don't think about messing with it, and the first people who ask these types of question are always the last people who need to be.

If this is for the AR pictured in this thread, then you could probably settle for either the H Buffers or the standard carbine buffers. I run standard carbine buffers on both of my carbines and have had 100% function.
Enidine Hydraulic buffer: Eliminates the "SPROING!" noise when you are shooting. Not worth the money IMO.
H Buffers: Stands for Heavy. Slows the cycle rate, tames bolt bounce and recoil a bit.
Since it's semi auto, it really is a non issue choosing the right buffer.

No problem. If your carbine is already zeroed, look through both the rear and front sight (center it and keep it steady), and adjust the eotech so that the "dot" sits slightly on top of the front sight. Like so:

This is a quick way of zeroing an optic, without having rounds going down range.
Not familiar with the ACE stock, but do they already come with the correct carbine tube? If so, you can save a little money and just look for the stock body, instead of the entire stock setup. If not, then the one you listed is a great price for a complete stock kit. Don't forget to buy a stock wrench as well.

What are the laws in your area concerning a silencer? Also, you gotta put a video up of how quiet it is.

On our firearms licences we have to declare the reason for wanting to purchase one, mine is for outdoor shooting. Could be quiet outdoor target practice or bunny bashing. I have two silencers down on my licence, so I can buy another to go on another gun as well.
Will take a video if I can find something to take one on, need to go to an outdoor range though as my main local range is indoor and will be louder than usual in there.
Edit:
Having used someone elses silencer on my 10/22 before I can say this video is pretty close to the noise it makes:

Usually hitting the target is more noticable noisewise than the firing.

Last week at the gun range there was a guy with a silencer on his .22 pistol and on a .45. Definitely interesting to hear the difference between the two, and the difference between the hollywood version of a silenced .45 and the reality of it. It still made a pretty loud noise, but you could certainly shoot it without hearing protection and be none the worse for it.
Penguin

If a silenced .45 was pretty loud, he must've been shooting pretty hot ammo through it. Bullets create sonic booms so suppressing most fast bullets isn't as effective. .45ACP is normally subsonic.

I couldn't tell what he was shooting, but that was my first guess. He wasn't the type of person that appeared to be easily approachable, so I just let him be and talked to the guy with the old black powder rifle. He was shooting something in the caliber of 70.

That video demonstrates a couple things.
a) That hat should never be worn
b) You shouldn't buy cheap magazines
c) The gun sounds like a stapler. Wow.

Here's a few of the things I have.
http://files.dodnetwork.com/users/133/images/Group%20(4).jpg
Rem 870 Express, 18.5" Mossberg bbl, bead sight with Speedfeed IV Stockset, +2 extension, SpecterGear 3 point & buttstock shell holder. Sweet shooter, very fast to point, light and very little recoil. Action needs a bit more tinkering and lots of shooting to smooth it out.
Aug '44 SA M1. Stock lost the proof marks, but it shoots tight groups, functions flawlessly and it's been reparked. I love the stock. It's wearing a '43 UFH 10" cut-down spear point M1.
Sept '44 Inland M1 Carbine. It's about 95% original and a really odd mix of type 1-3 parts. The slide, barrel band and front sight are type 3 and post-war parts. The rest are original. Type 2 rear sight is staked. The stock is the original Inland high wood type with correct proof marks. Worth as much as the rifle itself or more, given the scarcity.
Btw, I completely refinished the 870 about a year ago with GunKote flat grey. The pics don't really do it justice, but you can see the contrast between the mag extensiona and clamp and the barrel and mag tube.
http://files.dodnetwork.com/users/133/images/before&after2.jpg
Things that I've picked up since last summer:
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/2466/1001157nu0.jpg
Fabarms H&K marked FP6. Seen Mr. & Mrs. Smith? Same shotgun, except the 18.5" barrel. Basically an 870, but half the weight, super smooth action and much better engineering. They can be had VERY cheap, so if you like shotguns, I suggest looking into an FP6. Sigarms is going to start importing them soon (H&K dropped them). Just be warned, if you pick up one that's H&K marked, Sig won't honor the warranty because it was imported under a competitor and H&K isn't servicing them anymore because they dropped them. http://www.cdnninvestments.com/ carries everything for them, however. So head there. Great shotgun.
The Sig is a West German P220. It's been accurate, reliable and out-shot my best friend's custom 1911 build. Werd. I love this pistol.
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4470/1001184jt3.jpg
Refinished Sig P220 with OD slide. I picked up a 15rd magazine in a clearance parts bin for $10. Works great, fun on the range. Makes it look like a ghetto blaster, but... single stack frame... :/ Also painted the grips with krylon OD and wiped off the high points with acetone before it cured. Looks kinda sloppy in the pics, but it wore in a bit and has a nice two-tone effect.

Sticky bolt is gonna be the least of your worries. Wait until you heat that sucker up and it starts seeping out of the stock. A friend of mine has an SKS he's had for about 5 years now, and that thing still weeps if you put enough rounds downrange.

I hear taking it down and putting it in the oven is a good way to solve that problem, provided you have a way of catching the cosmo.

Yea, there's a couple "good" homebrewed ways to do it, all of them appearing to be a royal pain in the ass. But even still, the only way to stop it from weeping is to do those methods a couple of times, and then refinish the entire thing. Not a problem if you don't mind investing the time, but for me I don't have the time to do it right. So I just slapped a TapCo stock on my SKS and said the hell with it.

Man, today was fun. It was my first time shooting a rifle, my rifle (I fired a Beretta 92FS last April, that was the first time I ever fired a firearm). Me and my other ROTC buddy fired 70 rounds downrange. The kick is pretty strong on a Mosin, my friend fired a couple of rifles before (M1 Garand and M14, but this was back last May) and thought he could handle it; a couple of shots later we were using a sweater over the buttstock to lessen the recoil. We mostly fired from a bench position. I fired standing once, using a hasty sling but my trigger flinch, uneasy shakiness, and a little bit of wind made me decide shooting bench for the rest of the day. I bought the ammo at the Crossroads of the West gunshow when it stopped by in DC/SF; $48 for 400 rounds! I still got plenty leftover, I think I'm going to go over there again on Friday.
Oh, almost forgot. Yea my bolt is a bitch (or the cosmoline in the chamber)!!!!! Last time I cleaned my rifle was a month ago, and that was without even firing the thing, so last night I did a precheck and another cleaning session. Got some cosmoline out, noticed in the chamber there was some cosmoline crud right next to the bore but I couldn't get it out. Little did I know just because I couldn't see any other crud doesn't mean cosmoline isn't there. My friend and I had a war with the thing. He never handled a Mosin before, so I had to teach him the technique of firmly slapping the bolt up and back.
My neighbors at the range were very friendly. A man had a Finnish Mosin and showed me the custom shit he did to it (or what the Finns did, I liked their sights better than my standard Russian ones; then he showed me his bolt and headspace and told me where to get neat custom stuff like something in the bolt to increase firing pin reaction), a couple over were shooting match M1As; a couple of Mexicans showed me their mini - 14 (I mistook it for a M1 carbine because it was tiny like one), and one of the match M1A guys let me see the difference between a Mosin and a Mauser, I got to fire his Israeli marked K98K with original Nazi stamp one it (story was Israelis bought K98s, used them up until the 1960s. It fired really nice and the bolt was smooth, and double stacked magazine wtf? woah cool).
Highlight of my spring break.
edit: forgot ot mention, after we finished I took my friend to Big 5 to show him their selection of Rugers, then I bought a Charles Daly 12 gauge for $200 (not including the DROS and CA fee and taxes). 10 more days

What are you using to clean the cosmo out of the rifle? I had bought a little $20 hand steamer from target, along with breaking the rifle down as far as I could and boiling them in a pot of water and and mineral spirits. The steam cleaner was awesome for getting the barrel and the gas tubes cleared out as well. I remember putting it in there, firing some steam down the barrel, and just seeing this giant gloppy crap come ever so slowly rolling out.

So far for me it's been:
After firing:
Step 1: Fire gun scrubber down the bore to get rid of all the corrosive stuff
Step 2: attach cleaning rod and patch with Hoppes No. 9, repeat till dirt is gone, then dry off
Step 3: Break down bolt and clean with Hoppes No. 9
Step 4: Lubricate pieces of bolt with Hoppes Lubricating oil
Step 5: Clean chamber with Hoppes No. 9, then dry off with patches
Step 6: Lubricate chamber and moveable metal parts
Step 7: Clean stock with Orange Glow
As you can probably tell, I have the $10 Hoppes rifle cleaning kit from Big 5. I wanna invest in a bore snake, but my Big 5 doesn't sell em.
I might try the boiling water trick, then dry it off and lubricate the pieces.

If you use the brush that came w/ your rifle, it may be to small to fit in the chamber. Get a 20 ga brush or 410 brush, attach to drill and dip the brush in the solvent.

If the problem occurs, there might be a burr in the chamber. Went through many different techniques in dealing with hidden cosmo on my Mosins, and i'm not even sure if my rifle still sticks because i just gave up on them. I might take them out one day to see.

Stop anticipating the shot. It should come as a suprise to you, even though you know exactly where the trigger will break. It helps if the trigger is smooth too, hang out at the range and talk to the people there, you might be able to find a guy who will take the trigger assembly apart and clean it up for you, maybe for free, maybe not. That helps alot, depending on how awful the trigger is.
Of course, the other answer is grow a pair and stop being the rifle's bitch.

You know, de-cosmoing isn't THAT hard, and all I did was break my SMLE down and use mineral spirits. I actually wish there had been more cosmo on it now, as it turned out there wasn't enough and many of the parts are corroded. Barrel's still in good shape though. It's just that the rifle is ugly as sin until I start getting paychecks and supplies to fix it up again.

(i was planning on buying a .22 when I get my summer job, Ruger 10/22 costs around $220 at the Big 5. But then again, on Wed. I just bought a 12 gauge Charles Daly Field Tactical Shotgun :ninja: )
I went again today with two of my ROTC buddies. My shots are getting better, instead of all over the place like last time (but then again it was 2 ppl on one target), my shots were mostly on the 7 at 3 - 5 o'clock at 100yds. I got a couple lucky ones in at 9, 10. I just need to get my groupings closer. Sticky bolt is still there, but it's gotten way better than on Wednesday. This time I only had one round that gave me trouble, and it seemed to be a cartridge problem rather than a chamber one.

Yeah, Was using ear plugs back then and was rapid firing my AMD-65 which is about 4 times louder then a regular AK, And a plug fell out, It did pretty much instant damage so I didn't even realize the plug had fell out till I saw it on ground my ear basically went numb...
I had tinnitus for about 6 months after that, still do on occasion but I never notice it anymore, Also couldn't hear very well out of left left ear for sometime as it did do some damage, Everything for the most part is back to normal now, I had some tests done not to long ago and my hearing is perfect so I got lucky...

Thanks for the Calguns link, AFG. I couldn't remember. Either way, they're both reported to functional really well and are both accurate. If I can find a really killer steal on a well-used 10/22, I'll probably go for that. I dunno. Both are easily at least 9 months down the road, soonest, and I'd probably rather go for the GSG because in Fl there's no ban and I can SBR it and suppress it.

Fair 'nuff. I figure that between my Taurus and my Ruger I've got all the .22 angles covered (never met a .22 pistol that I liked). An imitation MP-5 in 9mm would interest me, tho'.
On that note, there's an Uzi carbine for sale nearby, but I can't afford it.

If you want to do it right you gotta keep have the fundementals
Steady breathing
steading trigger squeeze
proper body posture
good sight picture
As fun as it is to just go shoot targets as far away as you can hit it really isn't helping you become a better shooter.
First work on your grouping. If you don't have a tight group you aren't going to be able to move on past that. Once you have a tight group you can zero your weapon. No gun is gonna shoot exactly where you point when you get it, so your gonna have to zero it to get it to hit exactly what you aim at. Thats where the fundamentals come in. because consistency is key at pretty much everything. Weapons zero at diffrent ranges. I zero an m4 at 25 meters and the 249 at 10 meters so you'll need to look up the proper range for your gun. Aim center mass.
The flinching will naturally go with time and be reduced with proper technique in the mean time

TylerDurden
Apr 26th, 2008, 04:47 AM
any mags that don't feed the bullet into the action, you need to do whats called "bending the dog ears" or some bull shit.
when i first got my 30 round clips, they would "chimney" or is it called "smoke stack" i cant remember. ANYHOO, they would get caught between the action and the body of the riffle (sorry, im having a hard time explaining this)
basically it would jam, yes shitty.
what you do is take needle nose pliers, and bend the part of the clip that holds the actual bullet.
after you do that, it works great. i would shoot as fast as i can, and all 30 rounds would come out smooth, every time.
This sks is the chinese version. it had a spot in front for a pike, that flips out, so you can roast hot dogs, and or just dogs.
the folding stock was a true folding stock, in that, it wasn't one of those shitty wanna be stocks that don't fold. lol, yes they make them, and they suck.
these mags were made for 7.62 x 39 rounds. i've always called them NATO rounds, but from what i've been told on these forums, that isn't right.

Figured this was the best spot to stick it in, since it's not really worth a thread all on it's own. In case anyone was wondering, an airsoft gun can detonate a primer. The case then flies across the room to smack the shooter in the head. I was the shooter, and it was worth it.
Anyway, how does the M&P shoot? I'm trying to decide between one of those and an XD for my next pistol purchase.

I like the M&P. I'd never shot a .45 before, but I wanted the 1-shot stopping power that .45ACP provides. It comes with 3 different grips that allow you to adjust the fit to your hand, which was nice because so many of the pistols I looked at felt too small in my hand. It's fairly light, but recoil is manaimapenisgeable, and groups were pretty good at the range. It's very easy to field strip and clean, with only a few spots for residue to collect (far fewer than my friend's .40).
The only negative I've found so far is that there is no way to de-dock without pulling the trigger.
Overall, I'm glad that I picked it up.

The first rifle in that pic i posted is from CMMG, however, call before you order and check if they are backordered or not. CMMG is known to have less than stellar Customer Service.

woot!
As for ammo, I wouldn't worry about ammo selection since after all it is a mosin. Surplus ammo is not only cheap, but is usually the best route to go (when it comes to shooting old C&R rifles). I wouldn't worry about it being corrosive or not, as the rifle itself has already endured much harsher conditions. (Remove the butt plate, and check to see if there's hair, or scalp to see what I mean ;). Since it is generally accepted that shooters clean their firearms after they shoot, it makes no difference if you are shooting corrisive ammo, as long as you clean it properly.

Get the Taurus PT1911. The basic model can be found for a little over 500, then you've got all the night sights, combat rails, and stainless steel versions for differing prices. I've got one and have been shooting it at least every weekend, sometimes more often since February, and I've never regretted it for an instant. Especially when compared to my friends Para 1911's. My trigger is smoother, my sights feel more natural, and the slide is heavier so there's less percieved recoil.

Yea I ended up not sleeping last night and doing some research on Calguns. The search feature actually does come in handy. I decided to buy local to skip all those extra charges.
But...
Phase 1 is complete!
I bought a stripped AR lower today at this place in the next suburb over. Calguns rated it highly, and the owners were OLL friendly. I gotta wait ten days to pick up my STAG lower. Then after that I have the choice of a monsterman grip (eww), P-50, or bullet button to purchase next and I'm gonna go with the the P-50 to make mine CA legal.
The only stocks I saw in there were the A2 (around $90), but I think they're gonna put in an order for the telescoping stocks.
I still need to decide on the upper brand but this is the general idea I'm going in:
Stag Lower
A2 stock
20 inch chrome barrel
Full auto bolt carrier (doesn't really make a difference because of CA law)
1x9 twist
A2 front sight
detachable handle rear sight
or
Stag Lower
telescoping stock
16 inch chrome barrel
Full auto bolt carrier
1x9 twist
A2 front sight
detachable handle rear sight
You recommend any suggestions or upgrades to look for?

Stag makes good products, as two uppers of mine are from them and they've been 100% flawless.
As far as barrel length goes, it's really personal preference, so I'll let you decide for that. 1x9 is an excellent middle of the road, all around twist rate, but I always lean towards 1x7. Personal preference, either or is fine.
My suggestion is to keep it simple now, and accessorize later. Reason being, is that the accessories will cost more than the rifle itself.

so i got my mosin, its in great condition. but the bore is so freakin' dirty. i used hoppes 9 and ran some clean patches afterwards and it came out blue and then white. then i used some foaming bore cleaner and ran the patches and again blue, then white again. then hoppes again, blue, then white. so what should i do?

Some ask, "How many times do you have to do this?"
The answer is different for different rifles. A new rifle, with an excellent bore will probably be clean enough after one cycle of the procedure. A "rough" bore may benefit from more than one cycle. Even a new and excellent bore may require more than one cycle, if it hasn't been properly cleaned in a long while.
I once helped a friend clean a .25-06 Remington hunting rifle that he had bought at a gun show. The bore was filthy and it shot "patterns" of about 6 to 8 inches, instead of "groups".
We cleaned the rifle in this manner several times before it cleaned up properly. He then took it to the range and it shot into 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. A clear case of poor shooting because of a filthy bore.
But keep in mind that on an old C&R rifle like this one, you could do this procedure dozens of times and every time you would get black stuff after the brush scrubbing and get green patches after letting it soak.
The truth is that after a while on these old C&R rifles with rough bores, you are just removing more and more rifling from the bore. It will never be 100% perfect again, no matter how much you scrub it. And excessive scrubbing does more harm than good.
about your firing pin, it's hard to say. Mine touches 75, doesn't touch at all 95. Would you be willing to take that risk? I'd say take apart the entire bolt, give it a good clean, and then screw the firing pin in so it doesn't touch 95.
you shoot her yet? I just realized I'm able to adjust the front post (need punch pin and hammer), right now my 91/30 has a tendency to drift around 6 or 5 at 3"o clock at 100yds. I'm going to properly fix her next time I head out.

no i haven't shot it yet, im still looking around to see if its safe to shoot it with it barely touching 95. i've read what can happen if it extends too much :S so im a bit worried
edit: ok i read on some forum that it should rock 75 and clear 95. so mine rocks 75 and clears 95. im also thinking of buying a headspace gauge sometime in the future so it will clear any confusion

i was meaning to do that, but i never did. so far so good, about 400 rounds of corrosive (but dirt cheap) 7.62x54R down mine and no problems yet! I always check tho that my firing pin is good to go.
This too me about 4 hours but I finally done it.

I think he's talking about the "no full auto option" that we poor civilians have to live with (unless we get the Class III blah blah blah for thousands and thousands of dollarS).

If he is, his expectations must be high.

It's an ARMS #38 Swan Sleeve. I bought it partly for looks, and because I was planning on mounting an optic forward of the receiver. I think I might sell it.

it's possible your rifle's site might've been adjusted by some other shooter...but try firing it with a bayonet attached to see if that zeros it
