View Full Version : The World War III thread

Not to sound like a fearmongering lunatic, but looking at contemporary world events, it seems that things are getting hotter and hotter. The United States/NATO are in their 5th and 7th years in Iraq and Afghanistan, respectively. Israel and Palestine are still real angry. Pakistan is fluctuating between failed state and hopeful-democracy. The Balkans have suddenly become a bit more volatile despite two decades of peacekeeping. Nukes in Iran? Friction between east and west. And Canada's like "what's going on eh?" Surely such things have always been like this throughout the history of mankind, and maybe diplomacy will win the day in the end..

The question is, do you think that with regards to current world events/politics, that a third world war could ever happen in our lifetime?

Probably will happen but sure as hell wont be like the last two.

To be honest most of the recent activity around the world is nothing new and has been bubbling over since WW2.

Let's quote Einstein again:

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

To me, it seems that the single most important contributing factor on the roadmap towards global thermonuclear war is the upcoming fossile fuel shortage. Demand is steadily increasing and production is closing it's peak...

Since the nature of warfare has changed so much since the 1950's (despite what the US especially likes to think), I think WW3 will be more of a globally simmering conflict as opposed to an all out brawl. More of a huge array of small battles between various insurgents, special forces, terrorist groups, jack thompson, peta, etc. It might even be something REALLY different and be a totally economic war between the east and west.

Indeed. I fear that in 200 years from now, our peoples will all be speaking chinese...

Exactly, only more violent. I'd hardly call what we're in now as a World War, but it is a global conflict, and this is a much more global world than ever before. Back then war on a global scale was a novelty, now it's a convention. So much of our mindsets and fears are rooted in dead and gone practices. Is the world as we know it going to end? Oh hell yes. But it's not going to be the last world we have, it's going to change and transform.

Some people argue that the Cold War was WW3. Others think that the French and Indian War was the first World War.

I don't know how you can say that given our stance in the Balkans.

(We have yet again pissed off Russia. If we keep poking at a bear, eventually it will wake up and start fighting)

Also in the oh-look-it's-world-war-III-department is that the Putin Empir... er, I mean Russia, is going to display a parade of nukes this year. It marks the first nuke parade since the fall of the soviet union.

I love that einstein quote, really thought provoking.

I think everyones too shit scared to fire any nukes, and the insurgents & friends will just keep wasting our time and gettin no where (as usual)

I agree with the Einstein quote tbh..

As for people with nukes, I think N Korea is the only one stupid enough to try it and fail. By the time he launches it we will know in seconds and ours will hurtle towards his craphole and decimate it.

But really, democracy has never worked for very long it seems. Time and time again does the country or empire falter and revert back to whatever. Its getting riper and riper I think, what will happen I dunno for sure.. I just hope I am alive to see it, kinda wish it would happen just so I could leave this boring 9-5 bs behind ya know?

I want to invent a decimation bomb. You drop it on a country and it neatly kills exactly 10% of the population.

hehe, sorta like what the Romans used to do if a unit deserted in battle.

Exactly. S'what "decimation" means after all.

I could only see use* of a decimation bomb in the future for Russia and China, their populations are huge :ninja:
