View Full Version : Prince Harry in Afghanistan: America blows his cover!

Prince Harry has been fighting the Taleban on the front line in Afghanistan, the MoD has confirmed.
Harry, 23, who is third in line to the throne, has spent the last 10 weeks serving in Helmand Province.

The amazing part of this every newspaper chief and media chief in the whole of the UK agreed to keep this quiet and has done for the past 10 weeks. Until today when the Drudge report posted it online.
So...thoughts?
Is Britain turning into a communist state where the Government has complete control over the media?
Is it right for Harry to be there?
Is it right for his presence to be hidden?
Are his comrades at a higher risk now?
WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!111oneone!!!eleven

I don't think it's the government hiding it, they asked the media, the media understood the risks of running the story and agreed to hide it. His unit will probably now be targeted because of the immense value attached to him, but I think it will be good for morale to know he's there, in the shit, mixing it up with his subjects.
EDIT: Also, I gotta say, "America blows his cover" is pretty sensationalist.

We're just trying to make up for never getting a shot at King George. Sorry. Compulsive habit.

Odds are they'll pull him out, since his cover is blown he'll probably endanger his unit. Fuckin Drudge Report. But I'm glad he's fighting, that almost never happens anymore to politicians and royalty. The only thing I can think of recently is John McCain's son/nephew who's a Marine and deployed last year IIRC. But Prince Harry's a royal, which makes it more significant.

Agree with AFG, he'll be pulled out. Definitely too much of a risk. Nice gesture though.

I wonder what his unit does mostly ? I can't imagine him actually fighting, guns blazing, balls hanging out, knife in mouth fighting.

According to news reports it's confirmed that he has called in airstrikes and shot at enemies. Y'know, with guns.

What I find funny is in America our leaders "of the people" do all they can to avoid military service (ie Bush and Clinton), yet Royalty in the UK do all they can to get into military service.
MAKES YA WONDER

Jeez, what an odd bunch.
When they get raw recruits, shave their heads and stick em' in No.1's and other best uniforms, they do look silly.
My lil' bro looked awfull in his too.

He should stay none-the less. "Harry pulls out of Afghanistan as Taliban threatens to take revenge for 'Royal aggression" Horrible reason, probably more to it than this.

If he wants to fight, let him. It was a dick move to blow his cover and make him a target after he's been there for months. Now this story has to filter itself out of the news cycle so he can be deployed to an entirely different unit.
By announcing Harry's location, you make his entire unit a target. There's still a window of time between the leak and Harry's pullout, and for some time afterwards that unit will still face greater risk. It also can't be good for morale when a Prince is removed because its too dangerous and all the common folk have to stay regardless.

who knows, maybe his people "leaked" the info, while he is miles away from where they said he is. Maybe its a mind fuck.

If that were the case, they'd have outright denied it. Prince Harry would probably be in less danger if the insurgents are concentrating somewhere else.

exactly my point. Kinda.

Really it sucks the most for him. He's wanting to be a regular guy, to not have people kissing his ass 24/7 and not letting him do anything fun (or in this case not fun, but useful) for fear he'll be hurt. Now he's being reminded exactly how irregular he is because he's got a major security leak involving him and the response is to go 'Oh shi!' and immediately yank him out of there.
It'd drive me fucking batty.

This has caused my opinion that Matt Drudge is a douche in a stupid hat to stay exactly the same.

So he went from being the only Ginger in Afghanistan to the only Royal Ginger in Afghanistan.
Big target either way.
