That's just hateful. Now I'm definitely glad Microsoft lost that near-billion Euro European anti-trust suit.

It's not hateful, it's idiotic, on the part of the guy who sent it in. That he expected a huge corporation, which handles hundreds of repair jobs a week, to take the extra time and manpower to complicate a single repair job is idiotic. That he didn't just buy another console to be sure that he didn't lose his signatures is idiotic. That he expected some workers on an assembly line in a 3rd world country that doesn't speak English to understand his letter or care about on their $1 a day salary is idiotic. It sucks horribly, yeah, but the blame is his own.

I'm right there with you. I mean, he probably didn't realize. But even so, yeah. I'm sure this wasn't done out of spite, but out of ignorance.

Doesn't it waste more man hours erasing the signatures?....

l saw this before, and l'd say it wasn't Microsoft's part. The guy's request letter was long as hell. If he wanted it to stay he should've just written "DO NOT CLEAN/REPLACE CASE" on a piece of paper taped to the case itself.

Well, that dollar a day employee earned a buck 50 that night. Anyway, if I was that kid, I definitely would have just bought another console, especially because he clearly states that his warranty has expired. Honestly, I feel bad for the kid (especially if that really was the best two years of his life) but it's his fault.

This doesn't surprise me. The people who received the Xbox probably don't speak English, and more then likely live in India. Every time i call Xbox on the phone, i have to speak to some dude who has a heavy accent, and is getting mad AT ME for not understanding the crap coming out of his/her mouth. Im sure these people found the letter, couldn't read it, dropped it in the trash.

Should have bought a replacement case then sent it in.

Wow, how the fuck? Have you ever tried removing sharpie or permanent marker from a surface like that? I agree with Burris that shit must have taken MORE time to scrub.

And just an FYI the repair center for XBOX 360's sent from within the US is in McAllen Texas.

I can't be too harsh on the guy, Tech Support said they'd accomodate his request before he even sent the thing in.

Tech support is a hive of scum and villainy. You should never entrust something valuable to them. I still say his fault.

Valuable as in more valuable than the item with which they are capable of dealing. Obviously you should be able to trust them with your 360. I just think that it's ridiculous to raise a big stink and demonize MS for it. Sucks yeah. And someone needs to have a chat with the tech support agent who promised what they can't deliver, but really, it's like expecting your mechanic to make sure your engine looks all nice and polished after he's done dripping grease all over it. He's there to change your oil quickly, not to spit shine your carburetor.

I'm gonna chalk myself up as one of the few who thinks Microsoft is a generally good and well intentioned company...

I like Bill Gates more than Steve Jobs.

Ok. Well. You tried! but you messed it up. Lets take out the middle bit.

I think he meant it to be something like "Knowing that tech support is the spawn of Satan, it is his fault for giving them his personally valued xbox 360 case and expecting them not to fuck it up". Better?

No, I know what he meant. What he said though is that Tech Support is satan, but we should blame some kid.

And not Tech support? Sure, he was dumb. But he played it really nice and cool even before they compensated him in any way, and was really nice the whole time. I'm glad he got some nice stuff.

Its most likely not even the same console. Typically they send refurbished units back to you. As for the smudges, its a white console. Its bound to pick up some grime eventually.

They send the unit that you sent them back.. refurbished. They refurbish them. The case is the same case, the guy circled and highlighted where you could still slightly see bits of the old drawing faded from the washjob. I mean all you have to do is look at the serial number.

I know two people that didn't get their original 360 back. They were a bit pissed, but not as pissed as being without their 360 for 3 months lol. I think MS lost them and then sent out some random ones in a hurry when they complained.

I thought the 360 was LOUD, but when my house mate got his one back.....it was even louder.

I know what I meant even more. I meant, having worked tech support, I know how much of a bunch of assholes and poor bastards they are that work there. I was a poor bastard. Some other guys were plain assholes. Either way it was easier most of the time to promise the customer whatever they wanted, add a note, and let someone else deal with making it actually happen. The kid should not have sent something in that required special attention. We dealt with a few thousand cases a day, MS probably has more.

I'm glad the kid got a helluva consolation out of it. I'd be ecstatic to get that Bungie console back. And it was a very excellent gesture from Bungie. Stop making it out as if I think the kid needs tasering or something.

Its really funny watching guys bitch about not their 360s, especially the ones that live in houses with more than one console.

Bill Gates is a generally good guy who outdid Andrew Carnegie's philantropy several times over. Steve Jobs is just an arrogant cunt.

I just find it funny that two of my housemates bought 360's and both have failed and had to be repaired. The one upstairs is on a wooden table and the vibration from it vibrates through the table legs, floor, ceiling and makes it sound like he's using a vibrator powered by a car battery.

My Wii has been making more noise recently :( Metroid Prime 3 makes more noise than the others.
