My brothers (& sisters?) unite in the glory that is the Nintendo DS Lite. Tell us. What colour do you have? Maybe you have a DS "Phat"? Oldschool, my friend. Way to kick it oldschool. What games have you been playing? Which are your all time favourites? What peripherals do you use? etc etc.

Personally, I have myself a DS Lite in Coral Pink (http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Lite-Coral-Pink/dp/B000I10PYC).

(Some of you might recall this picture from the "post your guns" thread)
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b191/fpsvandal/0221080130.jpg

I use this case (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802786) because it maintains the portability of the system, while providing protection and room for up to 12 DS games and even a charger if I'm willing to make the squeeze, though normally I would just carry the charger seperatly, if at all. Though I've been looking for a clear form fitting case just to prevent scratching and smudging to the unit, something like this. (http://javoedge.com/reflexeshop/productCatalog/getProduct.do?poid=1597&pbmId=13295) That site doesn't seem to have anything for the NDS. Does anybody else have a formfitting case like that, and any links to point me at?

I'm currently hooked on Clubhouse Games (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clubhouse_Games) and I feel like I must have missed some kind of fun boat being that I didn't get it sooner. I've been looking for games that you can play exclusivly with the stylus, because frankly when I'm in class, I need to be able to ignore my professor and play videogames on the downlow, and smashing buttons is hard to conceal when you're playing a fighter like Bleach (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach:_The_Blade_of_Fate). I actually really dig Bleach, I've been playing it a lot. I feel like I'm losing out because I'm unfarmiliar with the anime, but the game mechanics are fun. It's a mad solid fighting game, which borrows a lot from the Alpha series and MvC2. I can think of worse games to copy.

I'm also loving Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_hourglass). I wish I had more time to play it, it's one of those games that you can't play passivly, so I end up not playing it when I need to have my attention focused on other things, and when I can devote time to gaming, it's normally at home, and spent on my Xbox or PC. I'll finish it one day. Hell, I finished New Super Mario Bros. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Super_Mario_Bros.) but to be fair, that game was a lot shorter and IMO even better. :)

I've also been enjoying/have played and liked Castlevania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawn_of_Sorrow), Advance Wars (probably my favourite DS game) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Days_of_ruin), Pheonix Wright (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pheonix_Wright) and several others.

In related news, I just put in the order for my CycloDS (http://www.cyclopsds.com/cgi-bin/cyclods/engine.pl), a device like the more popular R4DS (http://www.r4ds.com/r4ds.htm) which you may have heard of. If you don't know wat I'm on about, and you're a DS owner, I suggest you check out the links I just provided. Basically, these devices go in your DS Slot-1 (where normal DS games go) and you put a micro-sd card in. (I just got a 2gb microSD card+USB converter (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134545) to move files from my PC for like 14 bux after shipping. Boner.) Now with memory in hand, you can turn your DS into a multimedia powerhouse that would make the PSP blush. You can do all sorts of things from calender/schedule apps to better web browsing apps to DS emulation (of course, you would only back up DS games you own so you don't have to carry around multiple carts. Right?) and even console emulation. Snes, Genesis, MAME and NES games in your pocket. You can play MP3s and even make free phone calls (http://www.householdhacker.com/?p=32). I'm not kidding.

Now, if you don't have a Nintendo DS, either because you haven't been interested, or you own a PSP, I suggest checking out the CycloDS and R4 stuff. With these devices, you never have to worry about stuff PSP owners do in relation to emulation. No messy issues with firmware fucking up your emulators and ROMs, and MicroSD is WAY cheaper than ProDuo. By comparison, that 14 bux on microSD I spent would be more than twice as much (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802040) if you bought the same size, in pro duo. As if the DS wasn't a kickass enough little machine, these flash card devices make it something no gamer should be without. Plus there's some pretty new (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=020283) cool (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=020288) colours (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=020274) to choose from. So what are you waiting for.

SHARE YOUR DS INFOS WITH ME.

My current addiction on my black DS lite is Geometry Wars: Galaxies I think there needs to be a re-hab for it. Sometimes I play at work and start swearing at the screen and people go OMG! and when they ask me what you have to do in the game I say you pilot the SS croissantwich and do battle with various other shaped races like Diamond, Pinnwheel things, and those mother fucking drunk rocket ships also those cockhat croissantwich things that are evil and have shields but they basically look like your ship just with a shield and you can't kill them till they drop their shield, they're like the same ship but they're like corrupted by phazon or some shit I don't know. Guess phazon makes you evil.

That Rocket Slime game was stupid fun too, Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime was the full title I believe. If you see this game and never have played it you must play it. You fight as this slime thing that summons his magic tank, which is shaped like him, via a magic flute just like the green ranger. You fight other tanks by throwing various types of garbage at each other it's awesome. Tons of fun!

Resident Evil DS is spectacular too, just an exact port of the original Directors Cut THE ORIGINAL! Not the shitty dual shock version where they changed the music for some fucking reason and I swear I'm the only bastard that ever noticed.

There's this game called Operation Vietnam too, it's one of those budget games you see with really shitty covers but it's not bad it plays a lot like those old school top down PC games like cannon fodder. Course if you don't like those kind of games you'll probably hate it. The controls are a bit wanged though some better controls would have made the game alot better.

Vandal I wouldn't go as far as saying emulators on the NDS are on par with the PSP. The PSP wins that category hands down. The only emu that runs games 100% is PocketNES and that is for a slot2 device. The SNES one is decent but still needs alot of work. Also I got a Sandisk 4gig Memory stick for about 25 or 30 bucks, but yes those devices are good.

I own an N-Card clone (MK5) and an R4. The R4 is used mainly if I want to cheat in a game I don't care for or a game doesn't save properly on the MK5, otherwise I use the MK5 for playing.

Actually I also have a G6 Lite which I use for GBA or slot2 emus. Rarely use it anymore though.

Currently I'm playing:

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
Phoenix Wright - Trials and Tribulations
Picross DS

Soon to be Apollo Justice and I just finished Professor Layton.

I've got a White DS but hardly use it. Actually the Sudoku puzzles in Brain Training are what I go back to the most, and only then when I'm travelling.

Oh, and Elite Beat Agents = win.

Yes I am well aware of them all. Download them and try them on your new R4 and see what happens.

Have a white DS, but I can't be arsed to play a bunch of games that I am really lukewarm about. Many of the games that I thought would be fun all manage to force me to use the damn stylus just to play. Star Fox, im looking at you. Im really thinking about getting a PSP for Megaman Powered up, Portable Ops, and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles.

AW:DS was alright. It had a lot of dumb shit in it. Dual General battles and fuckin' like four tiers of abilities and stuff. They took all the frills out, and honed the gameplay. Made it really tight Turn Based Strategy. It's at the head of it's class, easily the best handheld strategy experience out there.

I agree with Vandal. I could not fucking stand those SUPER POWER WOW shits. You'd be taking an enemy down, slowly but maintaining your units, then....BAM! SUPER POWER KILL YOUR WHOLE ARMY BUILD A NEW ONE TIME. Fuck that, drove me mad.

Like Vandal said, it's great. More dark, bleak and pure TBS. I usually take a lot of days to bring an enemy down but I score high on power and technique.

Vandal how far did you get so far? I'm only on the 2nd ocean battle.

I wasn't too many battles after that Lazurian escort mission. I got to a point and hit a brick wall. I plan on going back to finish the game, but I'm hooked on Clubhouse games right now.

Once I noticed we had the same mouse pad I couldn't resist!

I don't play my DS too often anymore... I currenlty own; Electroplanktin (that neat little experimental music tool/game nitendo created), Zelda: The Phantom Hour Glass (I haven't beaten it yet, my girlfriend has beaten it tho), Sonic Rush (haven't beaten), and Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (bought this game when it came out and haven't even played it yet. I loved all the previous Advance Wars game I just have a bad habbit of buying games and never playing them. :(

My girlfriend owns a Coral Pink DS lite. She plays all the RPG's and such, I think she's beaten more DS games than me. Nintendo owns part of our souls. I had a Silver 'fat' DS and she had the Blue. Of course we had to upgrade to the lite... Damn you Nintendo and your age old marketing schemes!

My favorite games I've played on the DS so far (in no particular order) are; The New Super Mario Brothers, Mario Kart (beat the piss out of this game 100%), both Castlevania games, Sonic Rush, Mega Man ZX (even tho the map system was terrible), Kirby Canvas Curse...

Would anybody be interested in buying a pink Nintendo DS Lite, 3 months old, with an R4DS cart and a 512MB microSD card?

I'm too busy to play, and not entranced with enough games to warrant holding onto it.

Faceman
Mar 25th, 2008, 08:01 PM
How much for all?

Verhaden
Mar 25th, 2008, 08:36 PM
Not sure, to be honest. DS Lite comes with box and all the stuff that came with it, etc. I was thinking $115 or so would be a fair price. It's like new, but the fact that it's used lowers its resale value inherently. New+tax is around $138.

R4DS is in high demand, and given that it's nearly out of stock everywhere, I was thinking $50 for the R4DS, the USB reader, and the 512MB microSD card.

That puts it at $165 total. Would be shipping from Ohio, and I'd have to sit down and do weight research, etc. if I didn't go with a flat rate USPS box.

I also have a black Nintendo GBA SP with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Super Mario World, Golden Sun, Pokemon Silver, Tetris, and Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. But I think I might throw that one up on eBay.

I got an extra used NDS with R4 and 1gig microSD for 100 shipped not long ago. I'll ask around to see if anyone else is interested in your offer though.

Verhaden
Mar 25th, 2008, 11:50 PM
If not, no biggie. I know I'm probably asking a bit much, but better to start high and negotiate lower than come out too far at a loss. The price will probably fly for the yokels who live around my neck of the woods, that's for sure. That is, after I explain what the R4DS _is_.

I plan on using this money towards a newer laptop, but I still feel bad about giving up on the system. It has potential, but I'm just not seeing the games for it at the moment. I end up using nesDS more than anything.

Contra 4 was pretty awesome though.
