You all may remember a thread i made concerning which video card to purchase.
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=260 (http://www.themesshall.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=260)

At the time, the Geforce 9600 had just came out. I was going to buy one until i came across a thread at the Nvidia Forums. The people over there said that the new 9600 wasn't anything but an over clocked 8800gts. Meaning, you are better off getting a 8800gts stock, or an over clocked one. Everyone over there said to wait out for the new 9800GX2. Which shares a few of the same things found in the Ultra card, but with better specs. (Ultra is looked as the most expensive and best Nvidia card)

Well, now that the 9800 is out, people at the Nvidia forums are going nuts for balls, and basically this is what i've found out.

"ts a streamlined g92 sandwich...

Its the same thing they did with the 7900gx2.

Not all that revolutionary. If they can get the drivers and scaling right this time it could be worth waiting for a price drop to get."

"Fairly disappointed in the whole 9xxx series. The GX2 is nice, but yes, they're essentially just two cards Sli. I'm very disappointed in seeing such low clocks tbh. I was really expecting to see something along the lines of twice the raw power of a 8800 ultra, not 2 8800 gts's. Guess we'll see how their g200 series will be, they're defenatly making a GX2 v of it, I'm sure!"

A pretty good review.

So basically, in two weeks iam going to buy a video card, and when thoes two weeks are up, my choices are between the 8800GTS, and GX2.

Gx2 on new egg for around $600.00. For that much money, it better be working, and better be worth it.
The core clock on this card is 600MHz, with a Stream Processor of 256. Memory Size is 1GB.Memory Clock is 2000MHz.

8800GTS over clocked version on newegg for $270.00.
Core clock-670MHz. Stream Processors-128. Memory Clock-1940MHz. Memory Size- 512MB.

If you are like me, and have a Nforce mobo that can support 2 sli cards, or 3 sli cards, then wouldn't getting the best card for your money, that is sure to work, and has been tested for at least one year, sound like the better choice ? For Pretty much the same price as one new 9 series card, i could get two gts's. Although, i guess if the new 9 card works out, you could get two of thoes and be set.

What do you all think ?

Maybe this is just me, but I would much rather go with a fast single card than go with two cards in SLI. With two cards you have twice the power (and money) for less than twice the performance, and it's often quite a bit less than twice the performance. The 8800's are fantastic cards and have been for quite a while - just make sure you get one on the G92 core. They're better chips than the ones on the first series of 8800's were.

Thats why I deliberately got a good mobo, but with slots for only 1 card. So that I'll never pine for another card. SLI just seems like a waste of moolah to me - specialy when you use common sense in your purchasing.

IMO the Nforce SLI mobos are good mobos even without the SLI tech.

I don't know if any other boards alllow you to do this, but the SLI mobos give you user friendly access to over clocking your CPU, etc. They also have a design that allows heat to move off the board and into a certain direction.

For $180.00.

Anyone think thats a rip off ?

Any decent motherboard with most chipsets will allow that type of control. There are several designed around Intel chipsets that are really good for overclocking.

On the nvidia forums, this guy named luke is the computer guru over there. He is ALL ABOUT one video card rigs. So he was saying in these forums (links below) that the 8800GTS is the shit ! When over clocked, he says "omgomg"

Tyler - It seems to me that from your recent posts, that you not only desperate for a good card (or two) but the cash is burning a hole in your pocket. Stop worrying and spending so much time trawling the tech pages. Surely theres a better use of your time. Playing games, hanging out with mates - wanking even ?

Whatever you buy, just as night follows day, there will be a bigger and better card released a short while after you buy one. Just set yourself a strict budget and get the best you can for that budget at a particular time. You'll enoy playing that new game you've promised yourself to go with that new card, wether you get a 8800gts, a 9600 or a 9800.

It's too expensive, and right now you can get the same performance and save $100 by buying two 8800GTs and running them in SLI. Same performance as in 1600x1200, if u go higher then the 9800 might be a little better, but only a little better.

Edit:sorry for off topic.

I went and ordered my new video card, via Newegg.

After a week of research i feel comfortable with my choice.

EVGA A3 GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail.

And guess what it comes with ?

Crysis :manji:

for $260.00 you can't go wrong. W/o Crysis, the card would have been the same price. Newegg is a bunch of weirdos. I called them up before i ordered the card, this is what the conversation was like:

Newegg(Ghetto black womens voice): "HALLO, NEWAGG"

Me: "uuumm. Hi. How ya doing"

Newegg: "Wut can i halp you with today sirz"

me: "uumm, well i was just wondering if you guys are still doing a certain deal with a certain video card, that comes with said game. I ask because a lot of people have told me that this deal is no longer available, and it might be an error on your site, and that i should call and make sure, and also seeing how the card w/o the game is the same price w/ the game."

Newegg: "HOWLD PLEASE"

*3 minutes later*

Newegg: "My compuTer is slowed down, you'll have to wait a minute"

*5 minutes later*

Newegg: "Sirz, aare yuo still dare"

Me: "um, yeah i'm still here"

Newegg: "mmmkay, well mah compuTer is slowed down sirz, you'll have to wait a minute"

Me: *silence*

*1 minute later*

Newegg: "sirz, wutz teh item numBer"

me: "Item#:N82E16814130325"

Newegg: "sirz, the compuTer sayz it's in stock, so that meanz it's in stock, kan i halp you w/ anytang else today"

Me: *slaps forehead* "Nothing, i want nothing"

*CLICK*

so ........ i really should have never called them and if the card doesn't come with Crysis, it doesn't matter because w/o Crysis it's the same price, and i wanted this card anyhoo.

See, I want to build a new system and use it as a hackintosh/gaming box, but I also really want the 9600, except OS X has no support for it. :( But the 8800GT is more expensive than the 9600, so I'm in a bit of a jam.

read what i wrote Negro.

I wouldn't go with the 9600, why would you when you have better choices.

/me farts in hand, and throws it at Cheeto

Performance wise the 9600 and 8800gt are in the same league, roughly. Yet the 9600 is much cheaper than the 8800gt. So yeah, that's why I'd go with it, dur.

First of all: 8800GTS? A two slot card with a fucked up weird sort of memory capacity that has confused multiple games that tried to use it and is using an outdated chip type that was REPLACED by the 8800GTS?

Secondly: Are you incapable of being coherent, or did you wake up this morning and bang your head on the wall until your brain bled out your nose?

Tyler, chill out big time. I know I can't be the only one tired of hearing the racial jokes. I didn't put that in quotes because I can see that's how you're intending to come across - they're just not funny.
