So who's getting it tommorow in Europe?

I failed to find anywhere online with preorders so I'm hoping If I get in town early enough I'll get a copy. I believe its out soon elsewhere.

Now you know how we feel for virtually every other game release.

Yup, like the fact we're FINALLY getting Rock Band in about 6 weeks. It's only been about 6 months since the US release.

Oh, and my bro informs me that the Mario Kart AI is a cheating bastard, even more so than in the previous versions.
"So you think you stand a chance of winning after building up a 15-second lead? Well eat my POWERUP BARRAGE OF DEATH when you're only metres from the finish line! Muahahahaahahaaaa!"

Oh dear, that's upsetting. That was the single thing about MK64 that made me want to smash my console in furious anger.

This game is fucking awesome in every aspect.

How does the addition of 4 extra racers impact the amount of items directed at the person in 1st? i.e. Did they tone down the frequency for blue shells so that the leader doesn't get continuously screwed?

Does the Wii Wheel work well or are we better off with the GC controller or normal wii controls?

Blue shells seem to crop up less but the AI still cheats like made with green shells. Online 12 player is awesome.

The Wii Wheel works surprisingly well.

i just got it today

wii wheel is very frustrating for me, and so are the constant items.

it is much better than double dash though, but does not top mk64 or smk

I picked it up on Sunday. A lot of fun, little lag online too compared to SSBB.

N64 is still one of my favorite consoles to whip out at a party.

I refuse to buy any more games with "Mario", "Zelda", "Metroid", or "Pokemon" in the title until they start selling some different fucking games outside of Japan.

This pretty much leaves me with No More Heroes and Cooking Mama, but if you don't love Cooking Mama, FUCK YOU ASSHOLE.

I agree they're milking their bloodied and bludgeoned and rotting stable of equine beasts.

Interesting....the Wii Wheel doesn't seem as responsive as the classic controller.

Bugs the shit out of me though, that whenever you get hit by something you drop any items you're carrying. Wish there was a way to turn that off. And also the POW blocks, fuck.

Other than that though, great game.

i cant stand the bikes tbh. they're the most annoying because they're so much better than the karts in every way

id rather lose in a kart with honor than win on a bike like a wuss

I love that Mario Kart 64 has become one of those video game staples....I had my N64 at my dorm room last year, 10 years after the game came out, and people still want to play it all the time.

Has anyone noticed that in MK Wii the AI doesn't really start cheating until the cups you have to open up? I had no problems at all before that, but found myself getting raped on the unlocked tracks. Especially one race, fucking Baby Mario nailed me literally five times in a row within sight of the finish line and I placed 2nd to him because of it. That made me mad.

But then, I guess it wouldn't be Mario Kart if there wasn't something in it that makes you want to hurl your controller across the room.

I really have to wonder sometimes about the deisgn rationale behind the AI. Yeah, it's Mario Kart and you should expect to get bullshitted by it pretty frequently, but sometimes it's just absurd. Take for instance the following scenario:

You are racing, leading the entire race, final lap you're within sight of the finish line. Literally so close that there's not enough distance for your bike to get fully up to speed before you'll cross the line. And then you're hit by one of the following items:
a) blue shell
b) red shell
c) oil splat
d) pow block
e) red shell (again)
f) all of the above in rapid succession causing you to place 6th rather than an all-but-assured 1st

Honestly, what the hell. Are Nintendo game testers that much more receptive to bullshit than the average player?

Dr. Crawford

it really can be frustrating. I prefer when there are just 8 racers like the old games.

Also, its annoying that i'll pick bowser, and a baby on a motorcycle can push me off the level. what the hell were they thinking

Rob
May 6th, 2008, 07:31 PM
Yeah that's a little weird too. It doesn't really bother me that much (aside from getting knocked into slow as fuck offroad terrain), but it is a little bizarre.

Yes, they're Japanese.

lol

On another note, is there any special knack for unlocking Rosalina as a racer? I never did anything to earn her, I just turned on MKWii for the second or third time and a screen came up saying "You have received a gift from Super Mario Galaxy" and "You have unlocked Rosalina". Ummmmmm....why?

Ginger Lord
May 7th, 2008, 10:32 AM
Yeah, you just need SMG to unlock her and it randomly does it a few times after you turn it on.

Rainbow Road 150cc is killing me, I've missed Gold by 1pt twice now...
