He cheated on his wife, but he said (To me it seemed as if it makes it okay..) that "Well my wife was in remission"

Wow John... say bye to your career. To think I kind of respected him.

I'm not really sure how his marital choices reflect on his ability to do his job.

He probably could have weathered it if he hadn't lied first. I mean, he still wouldn't have gotten VP nomination, but still.

When someone lies about something as simple as a premarital affair, bold face lies in front of cameras then says "Well I never said it wasn't true, I said it was 99.9% not true" or some shit.... I don't think (And doubt many Americans do) he can be trusted.

Cause leaders are expected to be honest?

And he says he is willing to take a paternity test, yet of COURSE the mistress says no.

Something called "decision making".

Obviously the man can not find the right type of woman to cheat on; i.e. poor decision making.

Forgive me if I find that a bit hypocritical. The entire American ethos and design of government is structured around the distrust of politicians. I don't think that applies just to the States either, but also to a lot of Western society in general; trust politicians only as far as you can throw them. Expect them to be 'honest', IMO, betrays a staggering naivety.

Personal life and professional life are entirely different creatures.

No they're not.

Think about it, if he was willing to put his whole party in jeopardy and fully lie to a reporter.. what if he won? The Democrats would be toast.

If you can't separate work from real life, you're doing something wrong.... And I know that applies to a ton of people, but I maintain it's true.

Being unfaithful to your wife is a sign of a lack of integrity. While it may be personal versus
political, the mindset allows a greatly possibility for doing things that are truly wrong or illegal,
especially for personal gain. Truman himself said that such people can never be trusted with the
white house.

I find that to be a very narrow (mis)conception about how people actually function.

I think that it boils down to this: just because we expect politicians to be douchebags doesn't mean we're okay with it when they are. If this guy were an accountant his employers probably wouldn't care so long as it didn't effect his work, but people running for public office (especially high public office) represent more than just themselves.

I think there is huge merit to it. Same kind of logic why people who cheat regularly in HS are more
likely to cheat in the workplace. Edwards cheated on his wife when she needed nothing more than
total support. He is beyond scumbag.

im on the fence about this one. i don't condone what he did, but a part of me says "who cares what he does in his private life, as long as his political career is good"

but another part of me says that he should be setting a moral example in his private life that carries over into his political image.

also, i will say, im sick of the news acting like politicians are the only people that cheat on their spouses.
