I think it is a strategy. He's playing on Hillary's populatiry. Having a female running with him will help. She's a milf for sure. But she's not a very seasoned crook, scammer, liar and cheet. She'll learn fast what it means to be a VP tho. The kickbacks will line her pockets and then she'll be a PRO!

Leomhann

Female, male, black, white, I couldn't care less. Long as they can do the job and do it well. By do it well I mean not completely screw us over and run the country into the dirt. But yeah, it is a strategy, a good one too. It'll play to the feminists and supporters of Hillary because of the female in the White House aspect. Also like you said, puddle, shes fresh meat :D This could get interesting.

Pretty mediocre speech with little substance, IMO. And what little substance there was either was a half-truth or patently false.

I noticed they spent even more time talking about KIA soldiers and that sort of thing than they usually do. It depresses me that they think(and are probably right) this circular logic implies McCain should be in power. Especially when the record shows McCain has in the past voted against legislation supporting veterans(which Obama voted in favor of).

In general the focus of the RNC on 'National Security' is both baffling and unsettling at the same time. We are at war with Oceania, we have always been at war with Oceania?

People are giving her credit for going on an interview and saying the interviewer can ask her anything.

Why give her credit?

Do they really think that she will answer honestly if the youngest child isn't hers? Or that she'll admit she has been hypocritcal and outright deceptive about her 'pork barrel' policiy? She will answer the same as any other time she's been asked. It's just a chance for her to repeatedly hammer in her talking points. This is also assuming that they even ask her decent questions to begin with, more than likely they will show her the questions beforehand and let her strike out any she doesn't like.

Also: her daughter's pregnancy is something to address, since she seems to believe so strongly in 'abstinence only' sex education, her daughter is a pretty damn good angle to discuss that. Did she ever explain penises make babies to her? Or just tell her god would smite her if he saw her with a boy? Did she even tell her that condoms exist and can keep the babies away? How about STD's? This is why I can't get behind anyone who wants to remove proper sex education, it's too shortsighted and is making yourself oblivious to FACTS.

You are joking right ?

Whether you like us voicing our opinion on your country, economics, politics etc, America has a huge impact on the rest of the world, so to hear that someone who aims to be the No.2 person hasn’t till recently had a passport, hardly fills us 'foreigners' with confidence.

For starters, experiencing other cultures and especially going to other countries first hand and mixing with those cultures, especially conversing with people from other countries will make you a far broader minder person. Just like getting to College or Uni and meeting people from other parts of the country and other walks of life which make you appreciate other people, other opinions etc, a passport gives you the opportunity - but on a far greater scale.
Anyone who doesn’t want to travel abroad and see other cultures, and the amazing things those cultures have, does, in my opinion, defy logic. Anyone who has the opportunity, which she does due to her income and position, but chooses not to - is a fucking retard, and is nothing but insular and lack the ability to see how America fits into the global village outside of any preconceived ideas.

You have one life and its a beautiful world out there. If you choose to ignore it, your a fool.

I don't have a passport. Nor do many americans.

Governors don't REALLY have a reason to meet with heads of states in foreign countries. Michigan and California do becauase a lot of our business is in Asia and Germany, but Alaska, not so much.

The way our system works the governors aren't even really supposed to handle those matters.

Guy Montag

I don't care about the lack of a passport. I do care that she has basically been a blank canvas for the McCain campaign to impress their ideas upon. She accepted millions of earmarked dollars as governer, yet is suddenly against that? I throw up in my mouth a little every time I hear her 'thanks but no thanks for that bridge to nowhere'. Aside from the fact that she ran her campaign on keeping it, she never said 'no thanks', she spent the money on other things.

The idea that if McCain wins, she could become president at any moment, scares the hell out of me.

One comment that the few Americans I met in China kept saying was "Jeeze, you Brits get everywhere in the world".
Whilst I'm sure that your lack of a passport or travel is probably due to financial constraints, a desire to see the world is a good thing.

The way our system works the governors aren't even really supposed to handle those matters. Maybe not for Alaska considering that its in the arse end of no-where, but to say that that they don’t meet a steady stream of important foreign powerbrokers is a bit naive. You may get away with it as a State Govenor, but for the Number 2 person of the worlds biggest economy and military power, having little knowledge of 'foreigners' other that what a Whitehouse security breif tells you is a bit of a fucking joke. In that position your not playing national politics, your now playing world politics. C.Rice has hardly been stuck in the States just dealing with National issues.

Of course, its only a small remit of her job to the average American and natrualy so. We also vote our people in on how they affect us, with how they affect the world as a secondry concern.

The reason most Americans dont have passports is because America is just so fuckin big! You could spend a lifetime traveling the states and not see everything, as opposed to a lot of European countries that are about the size of one of our states. And we arnt really close to any other countries, We dont even need passports to get into Canada, I dont think Mexico either. We gotta fly over the Pacific or Atlantic to go anyplace else, its not as easy for us as Europeans. Its not really surprising that Palin doesn't have a passport, shes got how many kids? Try traveling once you have a couple kids see how easy that is.

I agree for a person wanting to become V.P. it seems pretty insane not to have traveled abroad. But many American's DON'T have passports. Look at me, I live in Missouri, it's the middle of the goddamn country. I'll be getting one this fall if our company meets our goals and we have our club trip to Jamaica tho! :) But me visiting a foreign country and staying at a resort doesn't quite make me worldly either now does it?

well, if your happy for someone who names their oldest son after something you practice running on to be courting for your votes, then you go vote for her.

I fully understand that you guys have to pay so much more for flights and 'holidays' to other countries, but that dont seem to stop the Australians, the Kiwis & the South Africans. They live a long haul flight from most countries and their currency dont make them rich.
Dont you want to see some of the world, or are you happy that your only experience of the world outside the US boarders is through a book or LCD screen ? Are you content to have only lived and died inside those same boarders?
Doesnt chatting to people from abroad ignite some desire to see where these people live?

Guy Montag
Sep 13th, 2008, 10:18 PM
First off, what somebody named their son can't possibly impact their ability to govern, so no idea why you would pick that particular facet to focus on.

But as for Americans not holding passports, in the past 5 years the % of Americans holding passports has risen and is actually quite close to the % of, for example, Canada. But I think the reason it still isn't higher is just the self centered cultural view that thrives here, along with the fact that you can stay within the US's borders and visit quite a range of places.

Penguin
Sep 13th, 2008, 10:52 PM
Yeah. I mean, not to sound jingoistic or anything, but America has nearly everything to offer when it comes to travel. If you want deserts, sandy beaches, rocky beaches, plains/steppes, temperate rainforests, mountains (snowy or otherwise), forests, swampland, tundra... it's all here.

Of course, where it falls short is culture. Even when the accent changes, the culture stays predominantly the same wherever you go, with a few minor changes in detail, with the possible exception of the Indian reservations. That's both a major advantage and disadvantage when you're traveling.

I got a passport, but I have zero desire to travel. I hate it. It's not because I'm small minded or some pushy bullshit; I just don't feel like I have some sort of responsibility to go see "how the other half lives". Even if I did have the time or money to go abroad, I don't enjoy life on the road, and I prefer the comfort of my own home. If you enjoy travel, and have a passion for those kinds of things, but you probably should back way off the whole "if you don't want to see the world, you're an idiot" line. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Like other people said; false. The way people interact with each other can be totally different in other countries. A difference in culture can be as small as the type of beer they drink. There are such awesome difference between Europe and the United States.

I feel like those two week trips to travel across Europe are so unrewarding. You spend all that money going from place to place but you don't even have time to make a friend from that country.

Taking the time to get to know people from other countries and making friends is really the only way to get a true taste of culture.

My point is, the big picture is all the same if you look at it as someone who has never experienced culture at all. For example a feral child. To them it would all be the same, they wouldn't note those small differences until they looked closer (if they would). You always hear someone say they can't tell the difference between japanese, chinese and korean people. But you spend time around each, you learn how to see the difference.

I just find it odd when people, and I dont just mean 'Americans' as there are plenty of Brits whos sole experiences of the world outside their boarders is some shite holiday town in Spain with 'English' bars selling nothing but aall day breakfasts and 24hour jugs of cheap beer, whilst reading The Sun and moaning about foreigners who 'dont speak no English', when people have little interest in going out to see the world. Asshole nothing, I kept to myself as much as I could. Much like I do here. And believe me, we have plenty of assholes from other parts of the country here who think no one here can do anything right, so if you showed up with that attitude, you'd blend right in. And what part of that suggested I was an asshole to them? Besides, I said people there, not people living there. The same goes for the downtown areas here, I don't like the people in them. (Ex.) I was wandering through downtown area in middle of august, it being 100 deg f, I'm in a suit carrying 45 lbs worth of rolled up architectural drawings asking directions to the city hall since my boss gave me shit directions, not one person would even talk to me.
