View Full Version : Serious question about sunglasses

Ok, I got a little delima. I have extremely light sensitive eyes and need my eyes pretty well protected from light all around. I have sunglasses that work very well for me (the lenses at least), but they let in a lot of light on the sides, top and bottom. Oakley Juliet frame in case anyone is curious. What I'm needing is a sort of blinder or add on or something (like cyclopse's from x-men 2 and 3) to block the light from top/bottom and sides. Any suggestions? I've looked at mountain climbing gear and they have something that I thought might work but they don't cover enough of the top and bottom. Of course Oakley won't help me because theres not millions in it for them. I haven't found an eye doc or jeweler (I know several in the area that can make custom molds so thats why I went there) that can't even figure out what I'm talking about either so I'm kind of at a stalemate.

Solid frame glasses should be good for what you are looking for.
Take a look at the Spy lineup. I owned a pair of Spy Coopers but switched to Heilos.

You're looking for side shields for glacier sunglasses. You're right that mountaineering guys wear them, they're great for keeping the glare from snow from blinding you from the side. If you notice, Jamie on Mythbusters wears a pair like that. Julbo Drus, I believe. Anyway, check the Julbo website, you're bound to find something that fits close enough to your glasses and they sell the side shields separately.

I feel like I can't pull off wearing sunglasses. I always look like a cocky douche-guido-Long Island cunt.
Oakley does make some really good sunglasses that block light from all angles though leohmann. I'd kill to be able to pull those off.

I used to have a pair of those glacier glasses when I lived in the interior. I'd get snowblind just farting around in the snow. You can find ones that actualy detatch. So you can remove the blinds. But the newer ones are found under "mountaineering sunglasses" Just google it.
They are about $70.00 for a realy good pair. Can be like $300.00.
These are exactly the glasses I had.

I was wanting to get another pair for when I'm out on the canoe or dingy for a row. The glare off the water gives me a headache.
But just remember your periferal vision is blocked. So treat it like a FPS and look both ways!
Cus you could get run over by a transvestite 70 year old hooker running from the cops.

:D But wait, if I look both ways, doesn't that make me look guilty to the cops chasing said tranny hooker? Wouldn't it be better to be an android and track them on my radar?

I only got the side shields to fit them to my oakleys for a test atm. But only $9 after all said and done. I'd pretty well need a side by side comparison to convince me to ditch my oakleys. The quality of the lenses, light blocking and glare reduction is amazing compared to any other sunglasses I've tried. And I'm a person who quite often needs sunglasses at night.

I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can, so I can
Watch the trannies
work thier tricks
on the streets at night
Oakly's are good but I find too expensive. I got a $10.00 pair after I sat on mine.
Didn't see any difference.

My eyes are sensitive enough minor changes seem pretty significant to me. I had several pairs of cheaper sunglasses but I kept getting headaches because they didn't block enough. I'm on the borderline of needing welding goggles.

You prally have trouble driving at night to I'd guess. I hate driving at night the lights were unbearable at times. Especialy those fucking halogen lazer retna burners! >:(
But I've allways liked the "Cop" glasses myself.
My friends used to say I was Johnyy Depp in fear and lothing in las vagas.
I think the "blinds" should help. But I'll sugest going to a outdoor mountaineerring store and trying those out.

I do have A LOT of trouble driving at night. Especially when its raining or dumb shits leave their brights on. And those xenons are murder. But I can see in near 0 lux given enough time :D (I've actually tested this, in a building not out in nature though). I'll have to find a mountaineering store nearby and look into that.

That was gonna be my suggestion. You can get the ones with the wraparound band to hold them on your face, or the ones that fit snugly against your face and have foam around the inside of them. Both work extremely well for keeping out flying debris, so I have a feeling they'd be perfect for blocking light.

Those are exactly what I have, I bought mine at walmart for like 20 bucks and they work extremely well for keeping anything out
