A drive i had set up so guest users couldnt access it. I doesnt contain my porn but does have my music collection and university related software.

Amazingly i cant access the folders on this drive now while logged in as administrator because I DONT HAVE PERMISSION.

Im away from my computer and cant do anything with it right now, though i could use a few idea's if anyone else here has experienced this problem.

I have a few idea's already on what to do but could use more if they dont work.

Check what users have permission to it. If you don't have the administrators group in there it won't be able to read it, though obviously as administrator you can set permissions or take ownership if necessary.

Do you have a different account you log into normally that you gave all the permissions to?

Turn off simple sharing, go to security/advanced and under owners make sure you are listed as the owner of it, then you can do what you like with it.

You must have set it up under a different copy of windows or something like that??

Ah that worked. I had to change owner from Administrators to Administrator.

O______________O

You would think if you limit access for guests in the administrator account you made, it would be smart enough to give owner to that account instead of the hidden secret default vista administrator.

Vista, you so crazy! thanks, you deserve a big black cock.

32bit is useless, but 64bit is great, especially on bearish systems with 4GB+ of RAM.

Permissions is a dirty dirty whore... I had a similar problem with my drive. Vista locked me out of the drive, but I had control over the permissions.

I'm not sure why setting the administrators group wouldn't allow you in, if you were a member of the local admin group... /: I've seen some goofy shit in Vista.

AFAIK weakest set of permissions wins out. For example, in Sharing user "everyone" set to full control, and in security "everyone" set to read only. Then everyone will have read only.

You ever want a fucking painful time dealing with permissions, try permissions with a *nix FTP daemon.

Oh FUCK I hate them. To this day I have only ever been able to get a Windows FTP server functioning reliably and properly.
