Stupid machines.....

My PC boots up and then everything locks up, start bar, icons, nothing. The hard-drive activity light isn't stuck or flashing alot, it's just plodding away like it would normally on the desktop.

Ive disabled all start up apps and services except my anti virus (Avast). safe mode my pc works fine, with all software disabled on start up I dunno what the fuck is up. Ive done nothing and its doing this out of the blue.

very annoying. what can i do

many disk errors from today.

I have been having a few HDD related crashes recently (HDD light stays on, then crash!). I then have to reboot then PC says insert boot device or some shit. I turn off pc, then listen to something whizz off from within the PC, it sounds like the HDD i think, sounds like it powers down. I turn the pc back on and it works fine.

But now its hit fever pitch.

I have disabled my Anti virus services and processes and it works now, although very tentatively, everything is slow and something is still wrong I can tell.

Sounds like your HDD might be about ready to die.

Sounds like the joke people at high school would do to eachother. When a person left his/her laptop unguarded, they would take a screenshot of the desktop, and put it as their desktop background, and then they would shut down explorer.exe so they think the computer froze when nothing reacted.

Yeah, I never understood pirating any form of any OS.

Go pirate Linux.

Get a mac.

Macs do the same shit. Actually Macs can be worse/more mysterious, since they do things like run file checking in the background and the volume doesn't show up anywhere until its done.

Check if your Bios has SMART testing enabled, turn it on if its not and see if it throws a error. Or if you a bootable CD you can boot up from that and run the HD manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

I've had very little problem with my mac as compared to the pc's i've owned. And the problems I have had been immensely easier to fix.

What the hell are you talking about? They don't do that at all.

Photoshop, video editing, music synth and mixing, programming environments, web browsing, web design, server, 3d modelling, gaming (native or bootcamp), and the entire BSD toolset from command line. Yeah, nothing at all.

Though I do stand by my original diagnosis that your problem is a bad hard drive, not Windows. So you'd have this problem on any computer, Mac, Windows, Linux, or Amiga.

I wish Direct-x was open source so I didn't have to use WINE to play Windows games.

Yeah because a random bug that was already quashed is indicative of all installations of that OS. I suppose that mean that all Windows does is BSOD and all Linux can do is compile your kernel?

I don't know what the hell you are talking about, I experienced this 'bug' a week ago.

but you know what, I have finally learned my lesson. Whatever you say Cheeto.
