Further to my other thread in which I describe how my PC will refuse to boot to my desktop like the fucking cunt it is, I think I may well have killed my graphics card.

Panic purchase on tomorrow as I have a couple of web projects I need to finish and I have lost a complete day of work today due to the arse cunting PC not booting and giving the fuck up on me.

Can't afford to wait for mail order, so I need to buy locally.

My nearby PC World is sold out of 4850's and the nearest store with one in stock is a 120 mile round trip. Fuck that.

Local PC place can do me a Palit 9800GTX+ 512Mb for £125 with my fire service discount applied ( we are all regular customers as its about 400 yards from the station :ninja: ).

Or he can get me a Sapphire 4850 for £136 but will take a few days to get one delivered.

So I'm leaning towards the 9800GTX more so for the fact I can pick it up tomorrow and get it fitted with no delay.

Read up online about the Palit 9800 and it appears to be a pretty good card with a lot going for it.

My "probably" dead current card is an Sapphire ATI X1900XTX 512Mb so I am assuming either the 9800 or the 4850 is going to be rather a large jump in terms of performance? Been out of the loop as far as graphics cards go recently, so school me.

Any opinions appreciated.

Cheers for link m8, not much between the two cards is there?.

I think the 9800 might be leading as far as my thoughts go.

Make sure to have a damn good psu for the 9800GTX+

I have the 9800GTX regular and it sucks juice. It doesn't run properly on mine because my PSU barely has the voltage for it. So it says its running at max speeds but it sort of creeps along.

think the evga 9800gtx cards specify a minimum of 450 watts with a 24 amp current rating on the 12 volt rail.

I'd go wit the 4850. Heard a lot of good reviews on it. Unfortunately, in your situation looks like you'll have to go with the 9800

If both cards are so similar, take a look at the games you like best and see what gfx cards work best with them. For example, Left 4 Dead will run well on an ATI? It's been so long since I knew shit about GFX cards, etc...

I've got a 9800GTX and its pretty fucking good.

HOWEVER. There is fuck all difference between the 9800GTX and an 8800GTX.

Went for the Palit 9800GTX+

With a bit of friendly bartering, I managed to snap it up for £100.

Reformatting and reinstalling everything now, report on the performance increase from my old X1900 to follow. :rawk:

Now your PSU will melt :D

I want to upgrade my GPU but my 450W PSU is getting a bit old and flakey for new things.
