View Full Version : Vista 64 Explorer.exe crash

So lately, and fuck if I know why, Explorer.exe will crash in Vista at random times and the fault module always seems to be ole32.dll and I can't figure out why.

Anyone got any ideas?

Ditch that piece of shit OS and go back to XP. Or install Windows 7. There's a new version of the beta out there, with new icons and wallpapers, weee!

XP does not have support for my 8GB of RAM and Windows 7 is a BETA. So nah thanks.

Nope, haven't tried that one. Was paranoid about getting a new one from the internets. That site reliable and safe?

XP 64 supports that 8 Gig of Ram you never use ;)

Other thing to try is disabling all addons and see if it still crashes.

I don't know, best practice is to ask someone with vista and the same level of service packs to send you his dll.

sfc /scannow Did that, seems to have worked so far. Also did a big run of CCleaner and reinstalled Privoxy (which, aside from my monitor calibration software was the most recent addition). Which seems to have helped.


XP 64 supports that 8 Gig of Ram you never use ;) It'll be a cold, sunny day in hell before I run XP 64bit for my production machine (yes, video editing and heavy photoshop use do actually use up a lot of ram...plus porn...lots of and lots of Firefox tabs of porn). I've seen the trainwreck of an OS that it is, so much so even MS seems to have tried to forget about it. Still...better than Windows ME.

Heh, I can't comprehend how a Vista user is going to call another OS a trainwreck. At any rate, I use it and I'm not sure where you got your impression from. Other than back when no vendors wrote particularly good 64 bit drivers, I've never heard of people having issues with it(especially when compared next to Vista).

Hey I'm not saying Vista is perfect by any means, but when I used XP64 it was slow, incompatible, and unstable. My step dad still ran it on his laptop with all the updates until recently when he finally couldn't stand it anymore and dumped it for Vista 64, which has been a significant "improvement" for him. I say "improvement" because for his work XP 32 would probably be best but *shrugs*.
