THE best "free" Anti Virus solution just got better. Avast! 5.0 is out, I installed it last week, had previously been using Avast! 4.8.

5.0 still has superb detection rates, low footprint and resource usage but the GUI and options/settings are much more customizable.

    Try it for yourself :-

Super Anti Spyware. Hasn't failed me yet, detects a whole lot more nasties than most anti-malware apps do :-

    Question Re: Useful software

This year, Kaspersky AV forced me to uninstall Spybot in order to renew my coverage; is it now taking over what Spybot does or should I reinstall it or what??

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :)

    http://folding.stanford.edu/
    What is protein folding?
Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery.
Protein folding is linked to disease, such as Alzheimer's, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers
Moreover, when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes.
You can help scientists studying these diseases by simply running a piece of software.
Folding@home is a distributed computing project -- people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer takes the project closer to our goals. Folding@home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems millions of times more challenging than previously achieved.

    ps.
When you run Folding@home, you can click the icon in your try and go to DISPLAY and it will show a 3D view of the protein work in progress. It looks like something you'd see on a computer monitor from Jurassic Park. It's pretty cool if you want to impress the ladies.
