Can anyone recomend me a small, realy simple and easy to use programm for downloading vid clips from Youtube? I dont want anything fancy; just rip them as wmp. or avi. file, one click download - something simple your parents could use. It dont even need an editing option.

I wanna' just be able to put some of my favourite YouTube vids on my mp3/mp4 player. I've had a little look on google but there's too much to sift through

Some good links here folks, keep 'em coming.

I think I will "Sticky" this thread, could be very useful if it grows and we have no Stickies in this section of the board anyway.

Don't put crap like Folding@Home or BOINC on your PC.

Well, this is a 'useful software' thread, which I assume means software to make your PC more useful. Running these applications means your PC will perform less responsively at best, on top of that fact that it is constantly reading and writing to your HD, which will result in a fragmented volume that much faster; and you can't properly defrag it while it is running, since files are locked by BOINC/etc.

The less resident programs on your PC, the better.

    On the defrag note:

    http://www.mydefrag.com/

Lightweight powerful defrag tool which positions your files more efficiently on your HD than the standard defrag or other tools I've used, in a nutshell.

Good point. I wont post things like that again.

This next link might not be within the quota of useful programs for your computer. I sorta think its useful. I like to watch things in my second monitor while i surf the web or play games.

It's called Free online TV PLAYER. So far it's awesome, I've been watching TV and it's all good. The only thing that worries me is "Whats the catch ?" so far nothing, but who knows. Maybe some spy ware is on my computer now. I got it from ZDNet which is pretty trusted, I wouldn't expect them to have this in their top 5 downloads if it was full of spyware. The only thing lame it's done so far is put two icons on my desktop that link to a site for winning a free flat screen T.V and movies on demand.com.
