Yeah, this was my first reaction: dude's just in active denial.

But a closer read suggests that, while he was struggling with his sexuality, he was pretty much voting against gay rights because of his constituency.

That might seem like BS on first glance, it being California and everything, but his district really is that conservative.

I don't think it's BS, I think you have to vote like you constituents want to stay in office for 14 years or however long he's been in office.

But it's not like gay rights really would affect a in-the-closet Republican anyway.

I am not fond of Republican opinion on social issues. I will, however, pay this guy serious brownie points for executing the text book definition of democracy.
