    Default nVidia 8 series question

I've nothing to back this up, but I beleive that the 8 series was a huge success for Nvidea and most of us have or had one of these.

I'm still using mine in my rig and I'm just curious - who else has one of these and hasent yet upgraded to anything newer? Are you going to upgrade soon? What sort of graphical level are you playing games at ? L4D2 is no probs at max but what about Metro 2033?

I'm just curoius as to what other people are doing atm with regards to upgrading. My mobo only takes one card so a cheap 2nd hand 8800 for SLI isnt an option. Will I get a new card or will I be best served by waiting another year or so and staring from sctatch?

    Currently:

    8800GT
Intel Quad Core 6600 Go 2.4
    2GB DDR2 ram
Gigabyte mobo - cant remember which one.

I used to have 8600GT, it was great but eventually burned out (literally).

Now I got a 9800GT and it's also great, but I feel that I have to upgrade to a DX11 card sooner or later.

Isnt that going to mean an increase of ram? Is a quad-core any use with a DX11 card ?

I gotta be honest, I'm a little out on what should be paired with what

4 Gb DDR3 is the minimum amount of RAM you need these days to run most new games, mainly DX11 games.

Also, a DX11 card isn't going anywhere if the CPU isn't able to run along with it, so yes a multi-core CPU is a must have.

Good job my mobo will do either DDR2 or DDR3 then.

So, just some new RAM, a DX11 card and a 'copy' of Windows 7 then

Everything ive read about it has been good. Apparently ATI nailed it with the 5000 series of cards.

I used to have an 8800 as well. The things were amazing -- they still hold up.

I think the best upgrade from one at the moment would be the ati 5000 series

I thought about it but im getting a P-55 motherboard that supports SLI and Crossfire so I figure I can always put a second one in if I need to. Plus my monitor maxes out at 1280x1024 so it should be fine.
