Fucking nVidia GPU definitions

So apparently the GTS 250 is better than the GT260 but worse than the GTX280? But my card, the 8800GT is as good as the 9800gt or the gt240 and mostly the GTS 250 but not the GTX 250...I think.

Can someone break this shit down for me? I just mainly wanted to know if I wanted to bother upgrading my 8800gt 512mb to something like the GTS 250 1GB for 130 bucks.

edit: check out the 2010 charts. perhaps there is something on there that out performs the card you are considering at a similar price.

Get a Radeon 5850 or something. They're as good as the Nvidia ones and are cheaper.

I gave up trying to understand at 9800GTX+ which is my current card and shrugs off anything I've thrown at it as far as the latest games go. I'll be screwed when I eventually do come to need an upgrade though so I'll need advice too. Or maybe I'll just walk into PC World and ask one of those guys to recommend me a new graphics card.

Actually, scratch that - I'll probably end up walking out the store with a fridge freezer under my arm.

THIS THREAD. There's seriously a part of me that wants to swear off any desire to game. In order to get into gaming form, I need a rig, and in order to get a rig I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE HELL ALL THE LETTERS AND NUMBERS MEAN! It wouldn't matter so much if there weren't hundreds of dollars going into it.

I was okay keeping up until DDR showed up. That's when I fell out of the conga line.
