Technically speaking, the mother language of British English and American English is a form of British English that neither of us on either side of the pond still speak, circa 17th century.

There's a bill in Congress just now to dump the dollar bill and switch to dollar coins...Except that our dollar bills last 4.5 years on average, and because of a weird little thing called seigniorage, the coins would actually be more expensive than the bills.
