    Default Starting a website

I will be editing this as more details are discussed

So a guy I've known for at least 2-3 years is starting a website. Now it's not just any website. He is actually starting a website that is focused on informing those who don't tend to pay attention to what goes on in the world. Of course he's targeting a younger demographic. Let's say 16-30.

What makes his idea unique? Graffiti.

The main "attraction" for this website will be to be a community or "home" for graffiti artists who are influenced heavily by current events and politics. I realize the roots of graffiti was politics and current events. That's the whole reason it works so well with the idea for the website. Since graffiti is already majorly influenced by said topics, it won't be an issue to actually look for artists willing to speak up.

The idea of the site more specifically is to cover topics such as global warming, politics, current events, economics, and other subjects that can greatly affect the world. Which is a lot.

    So why post this?

Well we're looking for some people that might possibly be willing to lend a hand. From designing the website to the structure it will use.

This is only the basic idea for the website and nothing is too detailed as of yet but let's just say it's in the "planning phase". We could use anything from artists (writers, painters, etc), coders (backend stuff like member registration etc), designers(website design), and other positions needed to make the site get known.

Now you'll probably ask what I asked him? There are millions of other sites out there similar or just like this, what will make yours different? Simply, the fact that we aren't really doing it to make money or to get famous. Just simple charity work that makes you feel good about yourself at the end of the day.

So if you're interested, post something or PM me.

    Thanks.

    EDIT 5/9/2008: Membership
The membership system of the community will be unique one. We will have one standard form of account that gives the user an option to:
    1) Display their username and other forms of information they may choose to reveal. Public access in short.
    2) A strictly username and password type. No other information is provided. Basically a need to know basis.
    3) 100% Anonymous account. There are reasons behind this one that shouldn't need to be explained.

tl:dr Starting a website that involves people who actually give a shit and was looking for more ideas, suggestions, and people willing to help. The end.

Get a host with PHP and MySQL support.

    I used and liked: http://www.hostmonster.com

Get a content management system. I recommend WordPress: http://wordpress.org/
Has lots of good features and a metric fuckton of custom themes and plugins to further enchance and tweak website.

I can help with some advice here and there but not full time, too busy with my own stuff. FYI, I've been doing PHP and MySQL webdesign for a year now and got pretty familiar with WordPress, to a point of writing custom themes and plugins.
