Default Man arrested for pit-bull attacks

I'm glad they got this guy and this pack off the street!

    Here is the article:
VANCOUVER -- A man wanted in connection with a rash of pit-bull attacks was arrested Monday morning by Vancouver police.

Hal Harris, the owner of the pack of five pit bulls, was arrested on a warrant from Nanaimo. The dogs have been seized and are being held at the Surrey SPCA.

"The dogs are in custody and will not be released in the public," said B.C. SPCA spokesperson, Lorie Chortyk.

The former Sidney resident was wanted in relation to a number of attacks by pit bulls on Vancouver Island and in Surrey in the last 11 months, including one in North Saanich on July 7.

Police allege that in an 11-month reign of terror, five to eight pit bull-crosses owned by Harris have attacked other dogs and pedestrians.

A man walking his dog in Surrey was attacked Sunday near 80th Avenue and 146th Street at about 2 p.m.

Surrey RCMP said the man was bitten twice and the dog was badly injured.

In another attack, three pit bull-crosses mauled a leashed bichon so badly it was put down.

In Surrey last year, a jogger and a cyclist were surrounded and attacked by six pit bulls.

Harris has been identified as the alleged owner of the dogs involved in the eight attacks through licence plates.

Chortyk said it's too soon to know if the dogs will be euthanized.

"Its a whole process that the city has to go through to determine if they're fit to be released to the public or if they should be humanely euthanized," she said.

"It's complex because we're dealing with more than one municipality and there may be possible criminal-negligence charges."

I don't think people should own this perticular breed. I was very close to being attacked by a so called "Friendly Harmless Pitbull from a good home."
I'm not for euthanizing the entire breed but..
    Then again..

Feel free to comment if you are a dog owner. I for one am against the breed as house pets.

I'm of the opinion its all about how the owner raises the dog. If the owner is clearly the alpha and keeps a close reign on the dog. I don't see there being a problem. Ever watched the dog whisperer? Its all about the pack mentality and how the alpha rules. So far as I've seen it anyways. The dog does what the alpha says.

Yeah, but in this case the owner seems to have taught them to go nuts.

I think the breed holds attraction for idiots who teach their dogs to act this way. I have a friend with 5 children who has had one around his children for as long as I can remember, and the dog doesn't even react really when the kids are sitting on it or pulling its ears. Sometimes it leaves the room.

See yes but there have been cases of them attacking other people and kids. They seem to be unpredictable. Since they were bread for fighting they kinda snap. That can be said for almost all breeds, but pitbulls are the ones who realy do dmage or kill whenit happens. The one that went after me kinda knew afterwards. It got loose again and seen me. I was ready to kill it as I had a nice sharp knife placed at my back. He ran back home and ever since just knew I'd kill it. I told the owner and her brother that if it attacked any kids I would take pleasure in chopping the thing up. Was not pleased with that fucking dog after he came charging at me when I got out of my car. Don't show fear and DON'T RUN!
The dog apperently got out again and went after a kid at the school playground.
Never seen it again. They moved.
