Hm, I got SP3 from windows update, installed successfully. Now XP doesnt Boot. It hangs at the Windows XP splash and Bluescreend one, other attempts (1) just stood there for ages.

Im going into safemode.

Obviously just a bad install. It happens. I once installed winXp, it fucked up, i installed it again and it was fine. Restore and try again.

However, if it still hangs, try removing your RAM sticks.

I tried ato repair my install with the win xp cd, but now my partion is unknown...i assume that means its totally fucked and inaccessable. Ive tried entering the win xp recovery console but that doesnt let me enter any commands. I actually cannot do anything.

Safe mode doesnt boot, its stuck on the line MUP.sys

If I do a fresh install of XP thatll be everything gone right?

I have a wireless LAN network which was set up by our tech-friend. If i reinstall XP from the disc, that will be gone right? Im using my laptop which is my only computer-life line at the minute, if I reinstall and lose the wireless internet I will be up shit-fucking-creek.

Go into recovery console and do a fixboot/fixmbr...then a chkdsk /f.

I was just thinking about my wireless connection. Where is it 'stored'? If my main PC is wiped clean, will the wirelss connection still be around? in theory all I do is connect to it with both PC and laptop.

So is the wireless internet 'in limbo' or if the main PC is wiped, itll be gone forever. Or does the initial set up of it remain, regardless of my PCs state, only when the PC is reinstalled, I will need to be able to connect to it again?


Im only worried about the LAN because if that goes im fucked, if I knew how to do it from scratch, id just reformat n reinstall with no probs
