XP is reinstalled. Wireless Lan fine. PC internet not

Reinstalled XP and amazingly the wireless lan and internet stayed fine for the laptop thank god. XP is reinstalled nicely and we're back in busines.

But I cant seem to make a connection on the PC? I go to set up a new connection and nothing happens, it thinks its already done.

I think i need to get the drivers for either the modem or the router (maybe not so much as the net works!). but the modem CD is fuckin useless and ive searched online for em and they mention inserting a usb into the modem, but theres no usb ports lol.

How the hell do you make a new connection when there's a LAN in my house already? can I at least sponge of that in the mean time?

Does you PC have any sort of Wireless Receiver on it?

not that im aware of. I dont think it has 'anything' web related on which i guess is why its not doing nothing. Id assume getting the modem installed would be a good start, but i dont have no usb , looks like its time to start searching for 1 cable..

Jesus Christ, the computer can't just magically receive the wireless signal out of magic. It need an antenna!

ye well anyway I found the usb amazingly and installed drivers form the disc, now I have the LAN connection on the PC in control panel, but it has not connected.

perhaps theres another piece of hardware on the pc that doesnt have drivers yet?

Basically. Our PC was just connected to the net like normal ye?

Then we got a laptop and then our friend set up a wireless lan network so the lappy and printer can work wireless.

But now the PC has no internet, but the laptop still is connected to the wireless net. Weird eh?


Turns out I need to install the Ethernet controller on my system, but dunno what make it is. aint they on the motherboards?

my mobo is a asrock 939dual sata2, if that means anything ot anyone

The setting are on the wireless router, not on the computer. That's why it always works.

Anyway, you said the drivers cd is useless. In what sense?

nvm bout that now, that was for the modem. I had to put in a usb which I found and it installed them nicely

Now i just gotta sort the ethernet thingy
