    Default My website got suspended

    Yup...

Pooey. I am wondering why. At first I thought it might some of the strong langauge and the like found in some of my works but then the site has been up for over a year and they didn't care. So I double checked their terms and I think I figured out the problem:

Backup Storage. HostMonster.Com offers its Services to host web sites, not to store data. Using an account as an online storage space for archiving electronic files is prohibited and will result in termination of hosting services without prior notice.
Well recently while I was coming to Japanland I backed some of my stuff up on the server in case my laptop explodes during travel (I am paranoid shut up) and I am guessing that's what happened.

I emailed the support (I'm in Japan so would rather not call international) but haven't heard back yet. What are my chances of getting the site back up? Any thing I can do to increase that? All my cPanel and FTP access has been revoked so I can't go and delete the stuff :/

I am also pissed seeing as I already paid for the service until the end of this year so that's a whole year of hosting down the drain ><

EDIT: Not sure if this should go in Tech help since it's not really technical stuff...

That's pretty fucking gay. You paid for the server space, it should be yours to do as you want, especially if it was going to be a short-term backup. I'd be surprised if they didn't give it back after you tell them wtf.

At the least I don't see how they can legally keep your hosting fees for the portion of the year you can't use anymore.

Perhaps you wanted stick to Brit hosting, but I have my own website with www.hostmonster.com and for $118 per TWO years I get 6000 GB webspace and bandwith (now they upgraded to "unlimited"), all sorts of bells and whistles like myslq dbs, php etc. and domain name included.
    My reply:

I usually find unlimited bandwidth/space deals are a fuckup, usually get you for "server usage" or something like that and aren't unlimited at all.
Unfortunately it's always the same story with these types of company that offer "unlimited" - it is NEVER unlimited. You may be able to reason with them though...send them a polite e-mail.

FYI, it was not unlimited when I purchased it, but had a reasonable space bandwidth and features. They only changed it after about a year when I signed up and after two years when I first heard of them (I don't know if the new deal even applies to me tbh).

Besides this I never had any problems with their hosting though.

Gah, they haven't replied to my email and feel like they wont, which means I'll need to shell out for an international calling card, ARGH ><

If it was stated in their terms of use that they dont do refunds and you agreed to it, there is no way, unfair or not, that you can get your money back.

And there isnt much to do about it since hiring an attorney costs more then what you paid in the first place. This is how corporations can trick our hard earned bananas from us, and have the law on their side.

So be a ultra-precise fly-fucking knowitall law jockey before doing ANYTHING, or get fucked hard and rough in the ass. This is our world today.

If it's a small company, you can usually get away with a polite e-mail saying sorry and you didn't realise. It's worked for me before :)
