    Question Need Help.......again!

    Hey Guys,

Soo...I have 2 laptops with windows vista, and i want both of them connected to the same wireless router. The router is working fine, and one of my comps is connected to the internet via the router...but i can't get my other one to connect. Well, it says that I am connected with limited access....I am getting frustrated. I don't see how one can work and the other one doesn't...and yes the wireless switch thingy on my comp is turned on. I clicked on the little "diagnose and repair" button, but all that did was tell me to unplug the router, and plug it back in. Which i have done.....80 times. Then it said to try and reset the IP address...which i don't know what that means, but I tried it...and it didn't work. Any other ideas that I could try? Thanks guys!

More than likely you have security on your router and the second laptop doesn't have the correct key for whatever security is on it. If you just plugged it in with the default settings, the manual should tell you what those are. Otherwise, you need to talk to whoever set it up to find the settings, or log into the router and look them up assuming you know the password.

    What model router is it?

If you haven't already, I'd delete the network from the second laptop and try joining it again, just to make sure you didn't fat-finger the key; if you type it in wrong, you don't get a prompt to re-enter, you just get the behavior you described. I believe Vista gives you the option to unmask the key however.

Otherwise, I would check the router's settings and if the channel settings aren't set to Auto, try swapping them to that. If you are using WPA or WPA/2(you should be unless the laptop's NIC doesn't support it), try swapping the encryption from TKIP to AES.

Also check if Mac filtering is enabled on the router, if it is either disable it or preferably add the laptop in question's MAC address.
